Went with a Yuasa YTX5-BS maintance free battery but the battery cover would not close properly - too wide ( past 60mm battery box width) and the side cover would not clamp shut. Ck'd the other battery thread and the Scorpion Stinger looked good until I discovered the width was 68mm - too bad. Ordered a Yuasa 12N5.5-3B 135mm x 60mm x 130mm - conventional ($60) but fits via my Yamaha dealer.

Ck'd out Moto Batt MB5U glass matt and your right Jon - 120mm, 60mm, 130mm. Slimmer but still a good fit. $126 CND, $64 US. Hmm.

I'd imagine taxes are a large bit of that gouge.

I'm not so sure about that. Free trade was about making taxes minimal from all North American trade. We never see price breaks from US books, and magazines, as an example. A product out of the US should only be adjusted by the current rates of exchange and that reflected in the price. It does not happen like that here.

Are you talking about ordering from the States?

Have you shopped this battery around online? I did that and found them at A$59 in the end, but my local seller wants about 125 for it on his shelf, I doubt he sells (m)any at all...

That is a big yes. Killer right now, and a plain rip off for us when our dollar is said to be strong.

Damn. Today that's 22% loss.

Don't they stock this stuff in Canuckstan? Or are they using US warehousing to stock close by with the shipping reductions allowed by NAFTA lowering their overhead? Somehow I knew that was gonna fuck everyone but the big businesses.

I have no idea how the dollar can be anything but useless paper. Something is crooked. When it falls we're all going to be hungry.

Export some of that BC pot into Colorado. That oughta be a nice mark up. The new NAFTA.

That's the exchange rate, but not what the banks and other institutions charge.

Today went searching for a Moto Batt battery because its a glass matt gel'd and has the correct dimensions for an LC battery box at a local battery shop - they could not locate one and stated the one I needed (Yuasa) would take 3 mths to obtained (huh?). Phoned the Moto Batt dealer, 3 1/2 hr drive away according to Goggle Map, and put on long distance hold for 7 mins. Then the clerk picked up stating he would have to call the Vancouver warehouse to see if one was in stock and would call back. That was a wk ago. Contacting the UK or Down Under was looking easier until I just got a msg from the local Yam dealer stating my Yuasa was in - was looking fwd to a Moto Batt however. Finding LC's might be easier here but after market parts aren't.
