1988 RZ350 No Spark
I just got my bike out for the spring and I have lost spark. It was fine last season and I started it in January with no problems. The bike has the stock '88 ignition boxes and wiring but the stator and rotor are from an '83. I swapped in an engine years ago from an '83. Can anyone give me some tips on where to start checking? Coil? CDI box? I know very little about the ignition system on these bikes.. or anything that doesn't have points.

I'd start with checking electrical connections related and coming from the stator up to the harness and plugs by the battery! Could be loose and corroded or both!

Send me a pm with a place to put the electric section of the service manual.
Btw, Are you sure the kill switch is not depressed?

PM sent, thanks. I usually never even use the kill switch, but I did mess with it a bit when trying to start it today. I didn't have much time to look at the bike today, I will inspect connections ect tomorrow.
Re: 1988 RZ350 No Spark
I hooked up a coil from another RZ i have and got spark, so I figured the original coil was bad. I decided to try it again without the plug caps and it sparked to ground. I installed some different plug caps and it fired right up. So either the plug caps were no good or when I re-seated the connections on the coil, it started working... I am confused.
The caps I have on it right now are off an '83 that were marked 5K ohms. I am using resistor plugs too, is this ok?
