Quick Pull Throttle

#1 Post by vmxwinn » Sun Mar 16, 2014 4:13 am

I would like to change my stock throttle to a quicker pull. Currently I am running PWK 28mm's with a single cable. Anyone modded the stock throttle barrel to a quick pull? Please give details, thanks.

i have looked into this.. and decided on a domino quick action throttle dual line... 1/4 turn offers 36mm carb slide travel... from memory

i have 39 mm carbs... might be too aggressive for standard carbs ???? for road use...

vmx, I have a quick turn on the bike below. It is a purchased assembly. I love it. The factory kill switch had to be removed and after market one installed. I am sure I have seen a mod for the stock tube tho. Did you google it?

there is a mod which involves wrapping/ ramping the cable guide on throttle tube but i still think it will be a long pull to get the 28 mm slides to full

you will also need to have some work done to the cable splitter housing as it wont allow full throttle... housing too short...

i guess it depend on what carbs you have.. ???

This is what I want to do. Make the throttle tube cable guide a larger diameter which should quicken the pull. There are many different profile throttle tubes made for dirt bikes so the same idea just home made.

you will also need to have some work done to the cable splitter housing as it wont allow full throttle... housing too short...

If I twist the throttle all the way and look at the slides they are fully open

i guess it depend on what carbs you have.. ???

thats the info i was trying to explain... but if you have a cable splitter it will limit the amount of cable travel not allowing full throttle... as said it depends on what the original setup is...

I have an R1 throttle tube from amy recent track gsxr part out... it changed the gix from 1/4 to 1/5... I wonder how it fits on the RZ.

I am going to try it... it even has the same grip!

You can perform the same mod only using a zip tie. Takes seconds to install and cost about 5 cents.

I thought that was what you were on about Aaron, jogged my memory about these pics from a few years ago.

The black ring was part of some high pressure plastic pipe cut to suit.

Not a RZ but I fitted a 36mm Keihin to my Aprilia 125 and changed
the throttle assembly at the same time. The throttle ended up
so heavy that I went in search of a long pull throttle assembly
so that the twist grip pull was light enough to use.

Is this a common problem when going to a quick action throttle or is it
possible I have an issue elsewhere.
The quick action throttle has less leverage over the return spring so is this just
one of the trade offs with fitting a quick action?
