The marks are lower than the rest as if the material has been wiped away leaving the ceramic particles exposed. No signs of damage on that piston except the top exhaust side has slight erosion.

Only sealant used is on the outer edge to keep the water in. On this head, the old ones the stuff inside of the O-ring is carbon, outside is O-ring material. No sign of leakage from the new heads.

Yep ive been running 2* on the squish. Ill give 0* a try on the next heads.

Old head.

Well its that time of year again. Packing to leave for the salt tomorrow. (Friday)

Take 2 on Methanol. I found a few problems that have been fixed so hopefully it goes better than last year.

Pics and story to follow on my return in a week.

Back from a less than successfully Speed Week. I broke the old record, just, but didnt get anywhere near the speed that I wanted. The bike ran like a POS. My fault as I tuned it. LOL

Didnt bring it home running. Detonated the left piston, not sure about the right one but that one still has some compression.

Good news is the TZ750 was there.

Back in the shed working on stuff that dosent cost me anything but time as I have plenty of that but no $$$. I got layed off 1 week before Speed Week. Gives me a chance to do some mods to the bike while I look for a job so I can rebuild the engine.

After talking to Stuart Hooped , Worlds Fastest Velocette http://www.worldsfastestvelocette.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; about my aero, or lack off, Ive had a rethink and am going to get a bit more serious about making my bike go quick and worry less that it looks like a RGV. My goal has been to keep it looking as stock as I could an go quick.

Here's a pic with the tail off, the rear section I fabbed up to hold the TYGA tail piece.

Image

This is the new version to hold the new tail that I will be fabbing shortly. I will be sitting 120mm lower.

Image

After the new rear was tacked together I had a trial sit with the RGV tank on and thought I was still sitting up too high.

Image

So tried it without the tank. Now were talking.

Image

So new tank time. Here's the beginnings of the new tank. I wanted to keep it looking like a bike tank and a little bit like the original shape. I must have watched 1,000,000 hours on tank making before I found an old retired tank maker that I could relate to his methods.

Back to the shed tomorrow.

Just a suggestion as I'm no fabricator or welder

Have a look at the design of the top of a Moto GP tank, they have an indent in the top of about an inch or so, so that your chin guard on the helmet sits lower so you can pop down beneath the fairing more to make you more streamlined

Thanx Jon, Im going to make a longer swing arm out of RHS so I can get my seat lower and will see if I need to get my head lower after that. Ill cut out the tank sides tomorrow and see how I go with the TIG and mild steel filler rod.

Longer swingarm would make for better stability as well Id think?

I went and bought the RHS for the swing arm today and started to draw it up. Bloody hell, its a long time since ive done any TD (tech drawing) very rusty (me not the steel) but think ive got it. I need to drill some larger than usual holes in the 65x35x3mm RHS for the pivot, 40mm and axle slots, 20mm so thought I would give a M35 HSS-Co 1/4'' Hex Shank Spiral Grooved 6-24mm Step Cone Drill Bit Hole Cutter a go.Image

Works a treat. It drilled a 20mm hole through a bit of 3mm plate like butter, well nearly. I went to Stratco to see if they had one as I didnt want to wait for one to come from China and I was in luck, they had 2 different brands, both unpriced. I took them up to the checkout chick and asked her to price them for me. 1st one was $13.50 the second one was $0.06. You sure I said. Yep thats what the scanner is saying. Guess which one I grabbed. I had cash so it rounded down to $0.05. Good value. So you can understand my amazement when I got it home and it actually drilled a hole. Ive ordered a bigger one from evilbay to do the 40mm holes.

Good idea, ive since made a dish to fit into the top of the tank, will allow me to get my helmet 50mm lower. Heres a pic but its going to be up or down the other way. It will smooth out the top of the tank as well. The new bit is pretty well flat, its the tank thats a bit wonky. [smilie=av-2042.gif] If I had an oxy I could heat shrink it so it was nice and flat but I have to keep telling myself that its a race bike not a show piece. Plus its the first time ive had a go at anything like this so im happy enough with the outcome so far. Im going to pick up the filler tomorrow so thats about all I need for the moment.
