The quality is better than the aim of the person holding the camera... :smt002

This looks like a lot of fun, thanks for sharing it. While I was watching the video this caught my eye;

Not sure what it is. Might be an early RS125 Honda? Looks like it was electric start so not sure.

We were talking about turbo charged 2 strokes for the salt and I found that pic.

Nice work on the pipes they look awesome!

The turbo charged 2 stroke is cool. That carb setup doesn't look ideal though.

The Maggot takes shape. TYGA pipe runs high, maggot is low, below the swing arm as ground clearance isnt a concern.

Yep Jon. Taking longer to make all the parts fit together than it took to make them.

All good practice for the RZ. :smt023 Thats next on the "To Do" list

What are you using for heads on your RGV? Porting/head-base gaskets?
I have been slowly collecting parts for one of my RGV's to put out a reliable 70hp at the rear wheel... There are 4 ECTA standing start mile events next year in Ohio....I'd like to represent the RGV for the first time with the crowd there.

I think the biggest performance improvement came from fitting 5 mm longer rods. That and different pistons was the only difference between my 2013 and 2014 engine and gained 10 MPH. Pistons have 3,5 mm higher pin the other 1.5 mm was made up with base gaskets.

Heads are modified standard with centre plug 10.5 cc, squish 0.7 mm, carbs 38 mm VM mikuni with adjustable power jets. Zeel ignition. TYGA pipes but a mate has JM on his and that makes better HP. My new pipes are a modified for methanol version of the JM pipes. Ive heard that gutted standard Suzuki pipes work well if you want to keep the standard look.

Use Wiseco or Wossner pistons. Porting is STD apart from a bit of a clean up, power valves are locked open.

EGT gauge and adjustable power jets makes for easy tuning once you have a good base line.

Use lots of the best oil you can get. I run the pump set at 50% and 30:1 premix. 3+ miles of WOT needs lots of lube. For 1 mile just pump should be OK but a bit in the tank wouldn't hurt.

I use 100 octane Premium Unleaded, it contains 10% ethanol. Best HP pump gas. Failing that Avgas comes a close 2nd. Ethanol is good for piston cooling and contains oxygen. If using ethanol gas change your needles and seats to non viton ones and check that your fuel line is also suitable.

Any more I can help you with just ask.

Long Live 2 Strokes. :smt023

Thanks for the extra info for my RGV :smt023

Are your heads welded angle plug heads... turned to straight plug. Or straight plug heads reworked?
I have a set of SP heads I thought of using, but am still interested in a set of two piece heads ....?

My first heads were modified RGV heads with the plug holes and chambers welded and straight plug holes drilled-tapped. I like to build stuff myself but if I cant get a set of modified std. heads to hang together ill have to buy some 2 piece ones.

Image

Image

I have since heard of a guy doing some heads with straight plugs and the same combustion chambers with standard angled plugs and couldn't see any difference with back to back sessions on a dyno. So my methanol heads will just have a 0.8 mm squish with a 2 deg. taper and O ring. Ill use a set of
E-2 12C1 heads to give 7.5 cc volume.

Here's a pic of the heads after this yeas run at the salt. The O rings were given a pretty hard time. I think the heads were distorting slightly. Carbon on the inside and O ring on the outside. RGV heads have the holes towards the outside compared to say a TZ head so don't clamp very well when you start to push them.

Any more questions ill be happy to answer if I can.

Maggot and front left pipe welded and flange mounted to left pipe. Getting there. Spent the day in the shed watching Bathurst so didnt get as much done as I wanted to. Got 10 more cones to cut and roll then final fitting and make some mounts. Last bit will be finding some pipe with the right ID for the stingers.

Sent some heads off to modified. Didnt end well. They let the apprentice loose on them so I had to get another pair. As luck would have it I found some SP centre plug heads so back I went with some instruction on who I wanted to do the work on them. Pick them up yesterday. Im very happy with the results. As they havnt been welded like my last ones im hoping they will be less prone to distorting.

New fuel tap arrived today. Pingel Nitro Guzzler with remote. You need to be able to turn your fuel off without taking your hands off the bars in the Fuel class. 2 @ 8mm outlets should pass enough methanol. I dont want it to lean out after a mile or 4 at WOT

Image

Last pieces of the pipes marked out ready for cutting. They are all cut and tacked now. Going to be a busy w/end.
