Calipers are often shared across bikes and also manufacturers as the Japanese bike companies sourced these from outside their own factories so you may well find they were used on other bikes. Have a look at the Tech tips section, you might find what you need in there as im sure there was a thread in there about this.

For the front calipers be very carefull of those little accordion style boots between the caliper and the carrier. They are expensive from Yamaha! I found a couple in UK for less than half US price. One is NLA (5R2-25937-00-00) the other (4X8-25917-00-00) is $22.00.
For the rear caliper they don't sell the little rubber seals that go between the two caliper halves. According to the manual, you are not supposed to split the caliper! I did split mine and it went back together fine, no leaks, with the originals still in there.
I bought the piston assemblies for the front calipers because they have never been apart and the exposed parts were pitted. I wanted to do it right. The cost for stock Yamaha parts (4X8-W0057-00-00) was $68 each.
After having the calipers apart and doing a really good clean-up I am determined to fully bleed the brake fluid every year from here on! The fluid crystallizes over time and makes for bad performance.

I have the front disassembled cleaning up and waiting on parts. did not split the front caliper and really do not see how you can very easily . i think i see the two boots you are talking about , not sure what they do or seal , they appear to look ok.

The front caliper is a combination of carrier mounting bracket and a caliper body. That spring keeps tension between the two parts and probably reduces chatter. I had mine apart earlier this year to replace the pistons and seals and didn't take time to ponder the need, I just assumed it was there for a good reason.
Those rubber accordion boots protect the sliders that allow the caliper body to move freely left to right on the carrier. This "floating caliper" helps to allow it to follow the disk more closely without transmitting shimmy from minor disk run-out to the steering.

I hooked the spring up on the workbench with the outer pad in place and I can't see it doing much. I tried to look the spring up on the partzilla parts site but they do not show it . its about 2"long and has a rubber sleeve around it ? I will be putting my caliper back together Monday and just not sure about this. Thx

I dont ever remember seeing a spring on a RZ or LC caliper, Was this something that has been missing off the mountains of calipers I have cleaned or rebuilt over the last 30 odd years or is it something that was added..

I’ve only seen that spring on the stock front calipers but not the single rear one. I’ve asked that question before here in the past on the orientation of the spring so a search should bring up that info.

I finally got frustrated with the performance of the stock front calipers and ditched them in favor of R1 gold spot calipers (ceramic pads) with adapters, R1 rotors, and a FZ8 master. Difference was like night and day.

You are correct, the spring is not on the parts fiche but neither is the threaded brake-pad holding pin.

The front Caliper is two parts. The body floats on two pins that are part of the bracket that mounts to the fork.
The caliper can float right and left. The spring is holding tension in the forward-back direction. No doubt to take up play in the tolerance of those mounting pins. As I said before the spring is likely there to reduce chatter.

The rear caliper does not have this since it does not float.
I suspect this is because the rear caliper won't be transmitting chatter and wobble directly to steering control.

Has anyone used seal kits from BrakeCrafters? A Japanese company. Seems decent?

going to try the brake masters seal kit Friday. Appears by conversation , parts and packaging that it is a First class operation.

Well look at that, I have never seen that spring on any of my bikes or bikes I have worked on over the years, We live and learn )

I have used the Brake Master kits multiple times and never had any probs with them,

Another little part to look for when someone claims their bike is 100% straight-up the most original RZ350 you will find. :smt031

Brake Masters or Crafters? The Crafters are on eBay. Masters looks like a UK brand and can't find a storefront.

My bike has the little spring, rusted as ever, but it's there! I bet it will fall apart when I disassemble.
