Need new pistons for your 4L0 RDLC ?
Re: Need new pistons for your 4L0 RDLC ?
How .uch meat on the 250 barrels Jon?
Re: Need new pistons for your 4L0 RDLC ?
Never thought of that, I assume the same, ie 2.5 over. I was idly looking at my '65.5 and needing a rebore 350 cyls' and wondering if that would be a smarter route for my cash...

Re: Need new pistons for your 4L0 RDLC ?
this is exactly happened to my LC a few years go
I was busy so I got a proper bike mechanic shop to supply and install the pistons
they did not take the tab off
So the bike grenade in 300 km
of course they played ignorant

Re: Need new pistons for your 4L0 RDLC ?
Anyone ever take the time to compare the weights of the various Pistons & rings? I suspect the forged ones are a little heavier but curious by how much.

Why not run Wiseco forged pistons?
Re: Need new pistons for your 4L0 RDLC ?
Some people do. But in my opinion they are overkill for a 40-50-ish horsepower bike.Zombie wrote:Why not run Wiseco forged pistons?
Yes, they are heavier too. And more expensive.
Easy to get though, wiseco is often the choice of shops because they can get a pair in an hour with a phone call.
I personally have nothing against using them other than the price.

I think they add a degree of safety for highly stressed applications and longevity for less stressed engines. Overkill for a 40-50hp bike? Not for a MX 125 turning 13,500rpm!

Re: Need new pistons for your 4L0 RDLC ?
One of my fuel petcock outlets plugged on my 350lc and as a result a piston seized. Once the cylinder was cleaned up it appears to be ok. Just some visual marks that cleaned up after a cylinder hone. However the piston is toast. How do I replace the piston while making sure the piston to cylinder clearance is ok or do I need to bore next size over ?

Re: Need new pistons for your 4L0 RDLC ?
Has anyone had any luck with Wossner pistons compared to Vertex ones?

Re: Need new pistons for your 4L0 RDLC ?
I have Wossners on two Kawasaki H2 engines and I think they are great. Both engines have 3,000+ miles with zero piston rattle.
Re: Need new pistons for your 4L0 RDLC ?
Who did you purchase them from for the H2? Caliper measure inside and at the top end measured 64.19mm (odd) which probably means 64.25. Note Fast from the Past has 'em in stock for $100 US each. Interestingly, they look just like the Vertex ones I purchased.

Re: Need new pistons for your 4L0 RDLC ?
Wossners are sized for the bore, ie. a 64.5mm piston will fit correctly when the cylinder is bored to that size.
Re: Need new pistons for your 4L0 RDLC ?
Wossners are forged (like Wiseco), I believe Vertex are cast (like Pro-X),
Re: Need new pistons for your 4L0 RDLC ?
vertex are cast
but are 12-21% silicon , really well known in the off road world ,
next rebuild i do on a 350 i will be using vertex , they are a really high quality piston
have mitaka (prox tkrj) in 6 bikes now and no problems they are a very good piston aswell
i would stay away from forged its not needed , just my opinion !!!!

Pretty sure vertex do or used to manufacture OEM ktm pistons
