4UO-005761. Cases are stamped 4UO with no numbers. No tie bars under the engine.

Well, made a bit of progress on the 4UOregon.

Still on "low budget make it run only" program until my KH400 sells (which at this rate may be months).

- Cleaned the fuel tank and rebuilt petcock. Treated tank interior with Evapo-Rust. Will likely do Caswells later as it's still pretty crusty.
- Cleaned crusty, varnished carbs and replaced all brass with cruzinimage kits. The choke side carb was the worst I've ever seen. Stuck slide and choke plunger. Impossibly crusty emulsion tube and float needle valve.
- Replaced clutch and throttle cables. Pattern throttle cable from Yambits doesn't fit for s#it so ordering a proper one from Norbo.
- Drained and refilled trans with Rotella T4. Old oil looked surprisingly clear, and thankfully no water or sludge.
- Repacked rear wheelbearings, brake arm, etc. Spins nice now. Rear brakes are smooth and goodenough.
- Sourced new AGM battery.
- Found a replacement JDM style turn signal (same as 80-83 XJ550)
- Cleaned, cleaned, cleaned.

Still needs: Complete front end overhaul. New brake lines, rebuilt master and calipers, etc. Forks rebuilt. New tires. Chain/sprox, etc.

I got it to run briefly Friday with carb cleaner sprayed in the cyls and/or carb bellmouths, but it wouldn't run on the carbs alone, so they are back off getting cleaned again.

Lots of stinky white smoke from the clutch side (as anticipated) so engine will come out and get crank rebuilt, new seals and pistons, etc when budget allows. May tune a bit with head skim etc., but maybe not as from what I've heard, head skim makes it fragile, and porting makes it ill mannered for the street (any insight on this would be appreciated).

Anyway. Basically doing what I can and only buying a couple things a week, as this is my slow season at work (real estate home inspector) and money is a bit tight.

IF? hasn't been run in a Looong time translates into a few years . You Will ! need a crankshaft.
Typically a wee bit of surface rust develops on the non moving unlubed bits of the crank bearings.
The thing will run for a short while: Week? Month? 2 months ? but that rust will destroy both bearings and journals.. Expensively.
Feeling Lucky?

Hmm, I guess maybe I should have been more clear.

I know this bike has sat for at least 10+ years without running.

Crankseals and bearings are obviously shot. Engine is coming out and getting a full rebuild. New seals, bearings, rod kit, pistons, etc.

I don't have the money to do the rebuild now, but will get started now by pulling it all apart. My labor is free.

make sure to check the stamp on the carbs. the early bikes (no tie bars) had carbs that required mods to work well.

My carbs are stamped 4U0-00.

Looks like Araldite is similar to JB Weld?

I agree and then disagree.

For pure fun, the LC is a total blast to ride and IMO more engaging than the RZ. I also don't think the LC is really much like riding an RZ. The riding position is more upright and the steering feels faster or maybe its looser? The LC has a "hinge in the middle" quality the RZ doesn't. The lack of the power valve is what I enjoy the most. The RZ is too civilized, where the LC is a raw lunatic. In most ways the RZ is a better bike but the LC is more fun.

pdxjim: You will find most of the guys on this board are into the RZ. We LC guys are more a niche group within a niche group. :smt003

In the end it is all up to you as to how stock you want to keep your bike. I would suggest a stockish look but with targeted upgrades to make the riding experience better. Stuff like flatter bars, better front brakes, upgraded suspension and better tires will just transform the experience of riding the thing.

Yeeeeew! KH400 sold this morning!!!

Back to work on the LC!

Current state of things (progress since last time):
Crank has been rebuilt, cases vapor blasted, new seals thruout. Cases reassembled.
Front brake system off and in storage. R1/R6 blue spot calipers planned

Still deciding on pistons and pipes. Will prob go with cast pistons ... proX or Cruzin Image RZ pistons depending on budget. Will likely go with Moto Carrera RD350 pipes modded to fit, as a guy local to me has bought the dies and stampings off Doug and I can (hopefully) get a scratch 'n' dent deal on a set.

Stock carbs are in sad shape, so will likely go with pwk28 carbs, Vforce v384 reeds and spacers. Prob have to ditch the airbox.

Will keep suspension stockish for now.

Nice, Project is a go :)

Just make sure the little locating pins on the crank bearing actually fit down into the locating holes, Some of them dont and you might have to dremel them down a little to fit.. :)

Been checking out your build thread and looks like you went a similar way As I am intending to go.

I’m sure I will have lots of questions for you.

No prob, you have a really nice base bike to start with. Looks class. I love the colour. I had mine out today for roughly 100miles or so. Ran great. A little splutters around 5/6k. I’ll fiddle with the needles.

I’ll be doing stock paint like yours ASAP. Going with JDM “RZ350” on the sidecovers tho.

Speedblocks look good from far, but are far from good up close. Tank stripe and tail stripe are nowhere near parallel. Really bothers my OCD.

Keep the airbox... it Makes Mo' power with it fitted than without.
Unless a purpose assembled track only engine.

PS; IF actually a JDM bike there will be a thermostat in the cyl head.
