Painting.. but which color?
Painting.. but which color?
Looking for some opinions here..
I recently acquired a WHT/BL Canadian LC. It needs paint and I am contemplating what color scheme.. Original or the UK White and Red.
I bought a 350 back in the UK brand new in the White and Red so the color scheme is dear to my heart but the bike is Canadian so the proper colors would be White and Blue...
I am going to restore the bike, not 100% original as I will add a splattering of stainless parts for longevity but plan to retain exhausts, air box, bars etc..
Not sure if the color change would detract from the value once complete? If so, to what extent..

Re: Painting.. but which color?
It being a Canadian bike is really irrelevant. I think you would end up appreciating it more if it was the UK scheme since that's what appears to be more dear to you.

Re: Painting.. but which color?
If it's a 1982 , original color was black .
Re: Painting.. but which color?
If youre in the USA what does it matter what colour it was originally in Canada unless youre hoping the market there will go ballistic and you will sell it there? I reckon you should do what makes you happy, remember there are Japanese colourways and also yellow and others as well. Enjoy it, its yours :)

Re: Painting.. but which color?
I had the same dilemma, All my old LCs were either Mars bars or white/red, I'm building a Canadian import and I went with the White/blue.

Re: Painting.. but which color?
I really like the jap “RZ” colours/decals. White or black.
That’s what I would did with a non stick bike.

Re: Painting.. but which color?

Re: Painting.. but which color?
When building any bike I try to look to the future when deciding on paint colour. If I'm hoping to get the maximum return on my investment down the road I'll do the bike in its original stock colours, as that tends to bring the biggest return from the purists. If I'm building a bike to satisfy my own personal taste (urges) I'll pick a colour I like, while hoping others will also find it tasteful should I decide to sell. At some point we all sell, so choosing colours that simply don't complement the bike will affect resale value. In the end it is your bike, so choose any colour(s) you like, but take a moment to look at what you hope to accomplish later on down the road.
Having said all that...you can never go wrong with Mars Bar colours. My personal favourite

Re: Painting.. but which color?
In my stuck in the late 70's early 80's opinion.....there is only one paint scheme for any 2-stroke Yamaha.
Competition Yellow with some combination of White and Yamaha Black. And it needs the "ladder" pattern in there somewhere. Hannah Lightning bolts or Roberts bird head optional. :=)

Re: Painting.. but which color?
Decided to stick with the original scheme. Probably leaning towards Red and White at present but the beauty is I can paint it white then decide!
Still gathering parts etc before starting the job.
