New RD owner introduction
New RD owner introduction
I would just like to introduce my self to the forum. I am new to the RD/LC model but not to Yamaha 2 strokes as I had a band new 1984 RZ500N. I miss that bike and I guess that's what has brought me back to the two stroke Yamaha's. I currently have 5 bikes in the stable and have made a deal to purchase a survivor 82 LC. It's a high mile completely stock bike that runs. The bike is complete and really in amazing condition. I have been looking around the forum here and have found lots of information. I plan on restoring this bike and look forward to being a member of this forum.

Welcome Ken to your new addition/addiction - your in fine company here. Have you pull the motor out yet as I suspect you'll be inspecting the crank etc followed by a gasket /top end refresh. Any pics & how did you locate ur Elsie? Considering the shape described, it sounds like it was forgotten in some household garage. Cheers - Scott.
Re: New RD owner introduction
I'm headed out to finalize the deal this afternoon and will post some pics when I return. Great advise on inspecting the engine ... I wouldn't dream of restoring a high mile RD without pulling the engine apart. Probably need some help finding parts and and some tech advise as I'm unfamiliar with this model..... that's where YOU GUYS come inLC Cnd wrote:Welcome Ken to your new addition/addiction - your in fine company here. Thanks for the welcome guys
Re: New RD owner introduction
Bonne chance on the deal Ken. And you right about the advise issue/parts issue - in some respect best part of the journey (bike geocaching lol).
Re: New RD owner introduction
I finished the deal on the bike. It has almost 80k on it but it is complete and stars first kick. The engine had a top end about 13k ago and I heard no unusual noises (It was actually very quiet). I'm hoping for the best on the inside of the engine. It's going to be time and money type of restoration so I don't think this will be done this summer.
The pics may lie a bit it may not be as nice as it appears but its a great starting point

Re: New RD owner introduction
Marbar - nice. That's what I'm working towards next. There is a gent in Ontario that does decals in very good quailty once you get to that stage. Interesting fairing kit. Ken why did you go RD instead of RZ? In my case I did not have a choice at purchase time.

I chose the RD for two reasons
1 I didn't want the electronics that are required for the YPVS . ( i can live with less HP}
2 I like having rare bikes .
i have a GB500TT, CX650E and a W650 not stuff you see every day
Re: New RD owner introduction
Rare indeed.

That's in great shape! Nice find.
Jon, I'm partial to the white and blue, Canadian '81s. I had 3 of them, back in the day.

Re: New RD owner introduction
in Aus the 250 was white with red, 350 was white with blue. Thats all we got, same in 2 and 3 stripe. I like both but the blue wins for me too Rory :)
