Re: what gel batterys are the canadians usingin the LCs
Years ago I wanted to fit a Gel Cell. Turned out the prices were same if not More than a Yuasa lead acid battery.
So I bought a Taiwanese made lead acid Yuasa Clone for half the cost.
Works Fine ..and is the same model # as OEM.
Sometimes we are too clever for our own good.

Ditto what Bare said, I bought a Yuasa AGM battery for about $85, when it needed replacing I bought a Chinese clone (still AGM) for around $30 and it lasted just as long. I have since upgraded to the small Ballistic and it has outlasted any battery I've ever had in the thing.

Re: what gel batterys are the canadians usingin the LCs
Yesterday I replaced the $30 special "alarm" battery in my thrasher RZ350 with another $30 special.
Any time I replace a battery I sharpie the date onto it. The one I removed was sharpied 11/06/10.
This bike is never on a tender and ridden a lot. Around 6 years of service from a $30 battery.
Not too bad.
The last liquid lead acid I put in a bike developed a leak in a seam and fukked up a bunch of stuff. Never again.

My wife's Acura TL, a 2002 model, still has it's Original Battery. Yup.. 15 yrs and counting.
Was recently load tested and it's showing no signs of needing replacement.
Friend who is a Honda dealer says this is V common.. because the charging setup was capably designed/built.
Battery life is utterly dependant on the quality/reliability of the charge system.
Crap systems fry batteries... quickly. Base reason why Moto batteries die early/often.
I have an Ammo box full of Lipo Cells (RC uses)
These are extremely Sensitive to charging. Get it even a little wrong and they puff up .. then flame. Fairly spectacular to see.
Not a hope 'n hell I would stuff a Lipo battery under my important bits, merely trying to shave a bit of weight.
Your Balls... Your choice.
