#1 Post by solo 2 » Fri Mar 13, 2015 9:36 am

Just 2 more weeks till Qatar, should be an interesting and entertaining season. Will Marquez finally get some good competition all season long. Ducatis new bike is supposed to be really good and what about Suzuki.

Any tips about where to watch the race for free or for a low price?

Who is actually going to a race this year?

We are going to Indy. It is the closest race we haven't been to.

I was trying to talk my brother into COTA this year, but he was having none of it. Will have to talk to a few buddies. I used to go to the Vancouver Indy every year, many by myself, still thinking about it.

COTA is a nice facility but not the best to watch from. It is difficult to see much of the track from any one spot.

Come to Indy and I'll introduce you to Karel. :)

That may be a possibility, I've never been to a major bike race, the COTA venue just looked really nice. Indy has a lot of history though, had always planned a pilgrimage to see Indycar.

COTA is a really nice facility. And Austin is a very cool city.

One good thing about COTA is you can walk around much of the track and watch from many different spots. Much like Laguna Seca.

I've never been to Indy so I have no idea what it is like for viewing but variety is the spice of life. :)

Dovisioso takes the pole for tomorrows race on the new GP15, might be an interesting season.

That was a great battle at the end, Kudos to the old warhorse, but let's be honest from last to fourth, barring mistakes I don't think anyone can touch Marquez. Dovisioso rode the wheels off that Duc, what will happen when they cant use the soft compound tires.

The Duc's were very impressive to be sure and I think they will adapt as they need to to stay competitive.

Marquez's rush through the pack was not as impressive as it seemed. He did it all early on when the lack was all still close together. By half race distance he was no longer making any serious progress on the leaders. Certainly he is fast and will make more than a few wins but he is not gonna dominate like last season. The others have figured out how to beat him now.

Were you watching the same race as me, watch it again. He picked his way through 3 different fights like they weren't even there and by the end of the race was within sight of the leaders after passing Pedrosa. He finished within 4 seconds of Lorenzo. It was just as impressive as it seemed.

Picking through heavy traffic is not as difficult as it seems because other riders tend to line up behind each other, making them easy pickings. I once went from 13th to 3rd in two corners and a straight.

Once Marquez got to 5th he made hardly any gains on the leaders for the rest of the race. He is gonna have to fight twice as hard for wins this year.

Marquez, meanwhile, unable to outdo the times of the lead group, had reached the limit of his combination in 5th place, after passing teammate Dani Pedrosa. “The problem here is that if you push 100 percent all the race, you can overheat the tires, and that was the problem.
“I tried to keep pushing, and at one time I was 2.5 seconds behind Iannone and Lorenzo. But on the last three laps I did a mistake and nearly crashed on one corner. I decided it was time to say ‘Okay, 11 points are enough today.’” - Cycle World

Not all passing was done while everyone was in line, in fact only about 1/2 was. After some reading I was surprised to hear "It is generally acknowledged that Marquez is a master of this tire-management game." especially the way he seems to flog the bike. I don't doubt that Marquez will have a harder fight this year, but I think you're not giving him due respect for that ride, I don't believe any other rider except maybe Rossi could have pulled that off. Time will tell.
