RD400F through Clackamas Hwy to Ripplebrook Ranger Station
Took the Ole Daytona out for a ride. Got caught in a few showers, but nothing serious. Beautiful area and great riding out here. The road follows the river all the way to Detroit Lake. I took the short and sweet ride to Ripplebrook Ranger Station (Mt. Hood National Forest). The turnaround ride from there was dry, no rain. Nice.
RD400F w/ RB Designs mods, spec II Classics 2010 expansion chambers, R5 350 carbs bored to 29.3mm, Y-boot UNI filter, banshee intakes and crossover, YZ125 reeds, RB Designs DYNA-S ignition. Prox pistons 66.50mm bore going on near 10k miles now...Already got the replacement RD350LC pistons (TKRJ) and Yambits conrods for the next go round. Bike is still running halfway decent and made the round trip no problems. Helped a guy sidelined w/ an old ninja an vacuum petcock...pushstarted it to get the bowls filled w/ fuel (now turned to reserve and no prime!). worked.
A few pics from today's ride. The days before this were unseasonably warm...talking near 80s and sometimes low 80s...now back to lower temps and a bit of rain here and there.
good ride all in all and the daytona is pretty much my favorite ride next to the 84 RZ350.. at least the daytona doesn't have a flat spot!!
pics:
The road parallels the river all the way through. has a cooling effect in the summer and is a real blast.
Just before this sign a dog was walking the middle of the road through the bridge, so i followed him for a 20 feet or so...he heard the popcorn and skittled away to the right.

Caught a sun break or two...nice to see a bit of steam coming off the road. ...summer is coming!
How's this for some wallpaper?
Or this? A bit of rain through here...parked under the protection of a tree for a couple minutes.

Bathroom art at the Ranger Station.
A shot of the sign from the restroom door (shelter from the rain):
Hope you enjoyed the pics. I know I enjoyed the Daytona!

Thanks Jack. I got pounded by rain in Estacada, Oregon, but it let up and only spotty showers. When i turned around, the rain had stopped and had a nice relatively dry ride. This road is excellent for a really fast bike, like the bike Z1000.
Just the other day we did a ride up to Johnston Ridge SR504 (Mt. St. Helens)..it was warm and dry the whole way. Last week was very warm for us. Took advantage of that.
Pic of the Johnston Ridge side of Mt. St. Helens from 2010 (high speed ride for big sportbikes also...cop magnet too!):

I don't feel so bad now. We got spoiled by 80 degree temps ALL last week. Unseasonably early. Temps like that don't hit until around June or July. I already got a seroius case of redneck! don't forget the sunblock!silverstrom wrote:Great shots!! Looks like you had fun.

Re: RD400F through Clackamas Hwy to Ripplebrook Ranger Stati
Glad you enjoyed the pics everyone.
I really like the 400F, those pipes i bought new from Spec II in 2010 for around $439 if i remember correctly. They were a little cheaper than the F1s, but i like the fact that the stinger end has all that support. No worries about a can breaking off. The perforated core is a little short, but they perform well.

Glad you liked it EW.
I hope to get some really nice road pics of SR504 to Johnston Ridge w/ the 84 RZ (still fiddling about w/ that, unfortunately...playing w/ pv openings has yielded some positive results). A couple miles before the look out is really awesome hi-speed (for the big literbikes) sweepers. This is most likely a road where i would put in the cooler plugs!
