New Member in Atlanta, 84 Yellow/Black KRR

Hey guys.

New member here in the Atlanta area. I'm 42 and have been riding street bikes since 1990. My current rides are my 84 RZ and 09 Triumph Street Triple.

I've owned my RZ since 1997 (third owner) and I'd say it's a 8.5 out of 10. I stuck a piston in 98 (crank seal) and it sat for a few years as I went to Korea for a year. Then, it sat for three more years while I was stationed in Alaska. The motor has mild port work done, shaved head, stock 26mm carbs and Jolly Moto pipes. I had them ceramic coated by Jet Hot and they turned out nice, but the side stand spring land on the frame tab contacts the chamber, and the spring rubs also. I'm stationed in Atlanta area now and finally got it running again in September last year. It has all the period mods (fork brace, steering dampener, braided brake lines, etc.) and has the Toomey battery box, 2-1 intake, old-style Toomey needles, 420 mains, 20 pilots, 3/4 turns on airscrews. It already had progressive fork springs, and I added a Fox Twin-clicker shock at some point. Here is a short video of the first start up back in September:

One thing I've noticed since then is that my clutch is out of adjustment (I replaced the clutch cable back in September also.) With the handlebar adjuster screwed all the way in, and the clutch pusher lined up with the case mark, I have little to no freeplay at the lever. After it warms up, there is some freeplay. So, I need to pull the clutch cover and readjust. I'm also going to replace the friction plates with FZ600/FZR1000 OEM plates while I'm in there, as I've read (on here) that they have more surface area and work better. I'm running three HD springs and 3 stock springs on the pressure plate.

I think it runs well and is very revvy with the Jolly Moto pipes, but they don't feel like they start making power until 8,000 rpm. Very smooth power delivery, but I miss when I had the Allspeed (Micron) big-can pipes that I originally had on the bike when I purchased it. They are not as trick looking, and certainly heavier than the Jolly Moto's, but they hit hard from 6,000-9,000 and were so much fun for lofting power wheelies. I've been thinking about putting them back on, just because the way I ride my RZ, I'm mostly in the mid-range. I like to get it out and cruise around just because of the looks it garners; people either know what it is, or have no idea.

I like to restore motorcycles also; here is a pic of a little 81 YZ60 that I did a complete, frame up restoration on with hopes of letting my daughter ride (ended up being too fast, so I got her a Suzuki LT80 ATV instead.)

And here is my Street Triple.

Thanks guys.

In 1992 I purchased a brand new, Suzuki GSF400 Bandit. It was such a neat little rocket! Red, trellis frame, like a Ducati, and that sweet, inline 4 singing at 14,000 rpm. That motorcycle was so lean from the factory, but I put a V&H supersport system and a Factory jet kit (removed plug over the low-speed mixture screws so I could adjust those) and it ran a lot better. Like a dumbass, I sold it and purchased something else. I'd like to find another one and completely restore it. I still have pipes, jets, and a few other odds/ends and a manual for it.

I'd also like to take on a GPZ750 Turbo, if I could find a good candidate.

2-stroke wise, I'd love to have a little NSR250 or RGV. I used to have one of those trick little NSR50s; it was actually a street-legal version from the Asia market that someone got over here. I put a big-bore kit on it and a Daytona pipe and it was a little ripper! I sold it to an Air Force buddy and he still has it. I should have kept it as it would be a great pit-bike (live near Road Atlanta now.)
