X3 I would put that one in my man cave and get it out a couple of times a year to ride to a vintage bike show. That is a piece of history just the way it sits now. Great find!!

Well at between 6-7k you scored yourself a nice deal. Is that US dollars, I don't know the conversion rates?like I said the last RZ that sold for virtually close to 10 k was advertised here, most said ,"good luck"..lol, well it sold in 3 weeks. It was advertised as being original...BUT IT WAS FAR FROM ORIGINAL, it had different colored wheels, non original bodywork,and exhaust if I remember ,its probably still in the classified section here. YOUR BIKE IS A FAR SUPERIOR EXAMPLE :smt023 ,I don't have to see any close ups. Your in a good position for a nice investment opportunity, not that a profit of 3,4 grand is anything to write home about but its good to know you should not lose any money, and walking away from any money is foolish.
90% of the people whom have RZs will eventually have a similar amount invested into their bikesas you do, me included...BUT OUR BIKES WONT BE WORTH ANYWHERE WHAT YOURS WILL BE, I'm fairly confidant that your bike within 5-10 years will command $10-$15,000 dollars easy, that is provided the miles don't get too extreme,and you maintain its current condition.
A few years ago someone advertised a RZ with less than 1000 miles on it, some potential buyers went to inspect it, and pulled a bore scope and proceeded to check the cylinders and carbon deposits,and ecxhaust internals! The seller didn't see that one coming :smt005 And what do you know it was just a doctored,cosmeticlly pristine, high mileage bike,it eventually sold for less than 1/2 of what it was originally advertised for.

I honestly don't remember seeing in person or photos any RZ350 as original as yours :smt017 , the RZ350 in the Barber museum comes to mind that looks immaculate, I don't know the history of that machine but Im going out on a limb thinking yours is actually more original, Im sure you know, that cleanliness is next to godliness and trick customs cost a boatload of cash, BUT ORIGINALITY TRUMPS ALL COMERS,YOU SIR MIGHT POSSIBLY HAVE THE ULTIMATE RZ, " regardless of its guise" and quite certainly one of a handful of examples left in the world in such condition. I know its just a bike, a toy whatever..but its special, and seriously important to people whom care and your lucky enough to have had it find its way into your possession. Perhaps this is a test bestowed upon you by a higher being whom loves 2 stroke motorcycles who knows, :smt017 I hope you two make the right decisions for each other :smt002 :smt023

DAMN! if that isn't a precious find...Do you know how cool that is? You scored a grand slam in the 9th inning of the world series for your home team with your mother and father in the audience, and your son sitting on his grandfathers shoulders catching the game winning ball with his mitt that your father gave him! THATS HOW COOL THAT BIKE IS! :smt033

Thanks for the response guys, so a few comments..........

Smoker;
The Wombat was given to me a couple of years ago and I finally got around to a complete frame up/motor apart rebuild. It's about 90% original.
Hodaka's are easy to get parts for and reasonably cheap to restore..........I think I am into the Wombat for about $750.
I don't buy bikes for monetary investments.........I buy what I like or what I find unique like my BMW HP2 Sport........we only got 40 of those into Canada.

Brian T;
I don't plan on riding this bike too much...........I have 6 other bikes to ride/modify. I have applied for Collector plates which gives us a break on insurance rates and the bike will go to the Tsawwassen Vintage Meet on the 27th.

Aaronmvrider;
I think you are probably right that the performance will be adequate.........I'll run it this year and make a decision on pipes. That and jetting will be the only mods I would do to this bike. I just hate the thought of CAT's on any bike, let alone a 2 stroke.

This old RZ;

From your post I gather that you are quite passionate about these bikes...........that's good, as it will be people like you who could give me the best advice.

I'll keep the mileage low and maintain it properly........I'm a certified Heavy Duty Mechanic........so I do know the ins and outs of machinery.

The Canadian dollar is close to par with the US dollar. I have been on a search for a while for a nice 2 stroke for the collection. I looked at quite a few bikes that had lots of use and were not too much cheaper..........I just felt it best to spend some extra money up front instead of delving into another possible project.

I do have a repair bill from November when the carbs were pulled to clean them as I guess some debris got into them. The tank was treated somehow at the same time to mitigate any rusting. The PO has also added a small inline fuel filter. That is the extent the bike has been touched. Oh, and a new battery last August!

When I went to pick it up...........I removed the seat and just laughed..........I have never seen a 30 year old bike so spotless and untouched................I did not even start it.............just wheeled it into the trailer and brought it home.
It might take up to 6 weeks to get my collector plate..........then I can give a ride report!

As for your baseball analogy, that was not easy for me to understand............if you had related the bike to motorcycle or bicycle road racing, then I would have got it! :smt041

Thanks to everyone for all the comments/advice!

Cheers

Ride update!

Hi guys........it has been a while since I posted about my new ride and just wanted to give an update and a ride report.

Last month I took the bike to the Tsawwassen Vintage Bike Swap Meet....I bought a 1 day insurance permit so I could legally ride it....it was the only RZ there!

That was about a 50km ride and it was the first time I really had a chance to ride the bike...........it performed flawlessly! What a great little machine! If you keep things in perspective.......it is a 28 year old bike.........what a fun bike to ride!

The bike now has a collector plate on it!!! Yippee.........cheap insurance!!

I have since put another 240km's on the bike and have decided to leave it absolutely stock.........it performs so well......and looks like it is right off the showroom floor........so why modify it???????? I have a BMW HP2 Sport.................so I know what a modern superbike feels like!

The only complaint I have is with the CAT pipes.................damn.......do they get hot.........and they retain the heat for a long time..........oh well........the things you have to deal with on older machines!!!

I will keep reading about all the mods others are doing on this forum........and comment if I can........but I guess the main thing I might be able to post about is if someone has a question regarding how a showroom stock bike should look............I can definitely comment or post photos of that!!

Cheers

Congradulations. As I predict you are the only guy on this entire forum to actuall have the bike, almost as it was riding off the showroom floor :smt023
Im pretty much in synch with what your impressions are,Your bike in that condition, there really is no reason to modify it. Like you stated you have a modern sports bike, so any thing you might do to the RZ, is really kinda silly.as it will never,ever be anywhere near the speed and handling of a modern machine..no matter what you do it would always feel SLOW in comparision. My RZ felt like a boat anchor when I bought my 89 FZR,I had no desire to ride a RZ for a decade after that :smt005

Your RZ as is can easily loft the front wheel in the 1st two gears,and has a nice pleasant exhaust sound. replacing the pipes and jetting the carbs will absolutely get you another 10-15 h.p guaranteed 100% and make it faster...but youll never really notice it when your used to a superbike you could add another 40 h,p to it and in comparision to the BMW..it will be a toy. theres no real point in it for you and her :smt002

Its a smile a mile machine as is! a 347cc small bore fun toy,and is a perfect example of what Yamaha created. I'm glad it found you.

There only new once, no rebuilt bike, or custom can match the original charm as does yours..the kicker is yours is still ...new!

Update;
Well 5 years have passed and I have decided to part with my RZ. It has a total of 816 miles on it now. It has not been ridden in a couple of years, so as much as I enjoy looking at the bike, it's time to let it go.
I put about 300 miles on the bike since I have owned it, but mostly it has sat in a quiet corner of my shop.
Other than oil & fuel changes, the bike is still unmolested with no modifications done.
The only thing not stock with the bike is an inline fuel filter.
This bike still starts and runs nicely.

I think I will try and contribute to the forum so I can get my post count up to the 25 or so posts it takes to post in the flea market. I'm tired of the A**holes on Craigslist!

Any questions/comments are welcome.

Cheers

Other than RZ or 2 stroke specific forums, you may want to consider the Rare Sportbikes for sale site for your best maximum selling potential. I hear you on the CL aholes- eBay is sure a close second there too! Good luck with the sale and sorry to hear your beauty may be leaving you soon.

Good for you!
I remember seeing it parked outside the Cloverdale swap meet a few years ago & marvelling at how great it looked.

Thanks....and that might have been the last time I rode it. I also had my Hodaka Wombat there and it was the only Hodaka.

Well according to the flea market rules, 25 posts are needed to post an add, but I will try anyhow.

Did you end up selling the bike?
