Hi guys;

Heres a new guy to the forum with an almost brand new 1985 RZ350...........it only has 560 miles on it.

It's completely stock......tool kit has never been removed from under the rubber band.......it still has the original grease on the chain........even has the stupid sticker on the windshield telling you what to clean the shield with.......and......and it also has the blue protective film under the windshield screws!!

I'm not new to motorcycling.....43 years of riding in already.....even raced LC's 83-85.......among other things.

I'm not really sure what to do with this bike..............I will ride it, but it's so pristine, I don't know if I should add the odd farkle or just leave it alone??
If I was going to do anything.......I was thinking of letting it breath as this model has the CAT pipes on it.

If doing pipes/jetting, any suggestions as to what pipes/jet kits to use? I have spent a couple of days on this site and see there are a few good pipes available, but any suggestions sure would be appreciated!

Cheers

Very nice bike!

Been seeing lots of these low mileage two strokes for sale lately.

Almost never see pics of a nice Wombat, though (hint). :smt004

Is it street legal?

I found the bike in Marysville, Washington a couple of weeks ago.

As for the Wombat.......I hope to get a plate for it.....it does have a Transport Canada sticker on it, so it was road legal at one time......

Smoker..........here you go..........

Very nice. In that condition I would not do anything to it that is not completely reversible. Maybe a set of pipes and the usual bolt-ons but that's all.

Great find! As mentioned, do the mods that can be reversed easily with you having such a stunning, unmolested, pristine stock example. I'd change the pipes and rejet at a minimum. Welcome too as you are amongst friends here!

Two RZ350s have sold in the last year for excess of $10,000 US dollars, each was dammned clean...but neither was as original or as low mileage as yours that's a impressive piece of RZ history you have there. However much I like to tear things apart and modify them, I just don't think I could alter a bike such as yours, I'm not even sure I could even change the pipes as it is so special in the condition it is in.

Do you know how rare your machine is ??, in the condition its in, I'm sure you do. :smt002 But in reality I doubt there are more than a dozen WORLDWIDE is such original condition, between 1-12 bikes in the entire world as we know it...lol. A bike such as yours , in a sense is not really yours, you belong to the bike and are responsible for its safekeeping. There sometimes is a thing as to nice or to rare. But that's your decision.

if I was "FORCED" to do anything to that beautiful bike :smt022 , obviously the tires would be stored in vacuum wrap and just a simple set of pipes, any pipes that fit your stock chin fairing. Toomeys would be a good choice..only due to the fact that they carry a huge reputation that goes side by side with classic RZs and the new addition of the O-ring in the spigot will help keep your bike pristine and immaculate.
Id buy another set of carbs and do the complete Toomey kit, so you could easily revert back to stock 100% if so inclined in the future. I wouldn't think of attacking the original carbs.

DAMN! THAT IS ONE SPECIAL BIKE...AS IS. IT DESERVES TO BE TOTALLY UNMOLESTED IN ANY WAY,I HATE SAYING THAT..BUT YOUR BIKE WILL BRING JUST AS MUCH PLEASURE DUE TO ITS ORIGINALITY AS A MODFIED EXAMPLE, IF NOT MORE!! ID URGE YOU TO KEEP HER JUST AS SHE IS ,for the sake of future owners and generations :smt002

I remember seeing it advertized in craigslist for $6500, which I thought was rather reasonable. Unfortunately I am on the other side of the US otherwise I would have considered it.

This Old RZ;

I understand what you are saying......as of this moment all I have done is change all the fluids, get a workshop manual and adjust the levers to fit.
I am really torn about installing anything on this bike, but I will ride it......just for the fun/feel of a nice 2 stroke. Not too much, and not too aggressively, as I have a few other bikes to choose from.

What I have learned so far from this forum is that these bikes are very special. I did not know the extent of the collect-ability of these little bikes. I just wanted a 2 stroke street bike in the stable........sure am happy I found this one!!!

I think the best thing to do at the moment is just leave it alone........learn about the bike from the forum, and enjoy it for what it is!

Cheers

I had a feeling that your Wombat would be pristine! :smt007

As much as I love RZs - I would take the Wombat over the cherry RZ!! Talk about rare!

I can't buy a bike for investment purposes. I have to modify everything. Then I ride the shit out of them, and sometimes bad things happen.

I say modify the RZ as much as you want. If money is a concern- make sure your mods are reversible, so you can put the bike back to stock form before resale.

How much do you plan on riding the bike? Mileage can add up quick. Put a couple of thousand miles on it - and suddenly, it's not so special any more.
