My $500 RD400 Daytona Special.

When I was 19 years old (1992) I came across this 1980 RD400 Daytona Special for $500. I found the bike in the local buy & sell paper and I didn't waste any time going to pick it up. It had the original pipes but I soon found Chrome DG chambers for it. I had not idea what the hell I was getting into, coming off a Seca 400 to this RD I just about killed myself more then once. LOL Sadly I crashed the bike on it's "last run" before selling it to go to college. An old lady pulled right out in front of me and I t-boned her car. I was not hurt to bad but the bike had bent fork, tank damage, etc. Her insurance company gave me $500 for the bike and let me keep it.

I had a bunch of parts for the bike so I replaced the forks and relisted it for sale. I got $900 for the bike and parts and the guy who brought it was turning it into a race bike.

Since that time I have craved another 2 stroke Yamaha, so this past fall I found my 85' RZ which is under construction now. Now that I'm almost 40 with a wife and 3 little kids, I guess you could call this my mid life crisis.

Just a quick story, but I wish I still had that RD!!!

With us motorcycle enthusiasts there will always be "the one that got away". It night be dirt or street. No matter. Its all the same, and it's different for each person.

I have several machines I wish I have never parted with, but I don't want to side step your thread.

Nice looking bike for sure. I always wanted to ride a 400 DS. Just so I could say I did it. Then again its the same thing with an RZ500. When does the list quit? I don't know, as mine is pretty extensive...
