83 RZ250 build

#1 Post by South_Oz » Tue Jul 24, 2012 12:12 am

Image

Hi guys, im new here and need some advice on my new purchase. I have an RGV but wanted something a bit bigger. I couldnt afford an RG500 or RZ500 so thought I would have a go at building a RZ421. My first question is about the pipes fitted to the bike I bought. As you can see the mounts dont line up and the dent for the foot peg either. Are they 350 pipes? The pipes are fitted correctly at the barrel.

I plan on fitting some chambers, Zeel ignition and some bigger carbs as well as the 421 kit.

Image

Next question is what is the best 421 kit around. I see that there are a few on the market. Ive heard good thing about the goods and service offered by Wicked.

BTW im in South Australia.

Im sure there will be lots more questions to come.

Thanx
Dave

Those are probably 4LO RD350LC (81-82)pipes.
They look the same as RZ but are not.

Look like LC pipes as has been said. Just stick em on ebay, you will sell em quick and get some cash towards pipes that will work for your bike :smt001

Its going to be a bit of a budget rebuild as far as cosmetics go. Ive got an RGV that ive built up to have a go at Dry Lake Racing and want to get into the 500 class as well so this is the best way for a two stroke nut on a budget to do it im hoping.

What can I say buy WOW. That will be a killer build. I plan on using a Zeel ignition some RGV carbs I have lying around and might have a go at making some pipes to keep the price down a bit.
I like to do as much as I can myself.
Hows the weather up there, cold down here in the Adelaide Hills.

Welcome South OZ,You wont go wrong with Rogers, advice and service.

The 421 build should be rewarding, and the holligans in sydney have beaten that path.

Mate if that bike in the pic currently has 350 Barrells on it, get some filters on those carbs. 350 Barrells are as rare as Rocking Horse shit.
It would be a shame to damage them, and some one her will snap them up for 3 or 400 dollars or more if they are still on the original bores.

Also plenty of threads here about putting that rgv suspension to good use.

Still in the design dreaming stage. Got in touch with Roger and I might go the 443 +7 kit. Lots is good so more must be better when it comes to CC.
My RGV is a VJ21 the early one with not much better suspension than the RZ. Barrels on the bike are 250 with 27000 on the speedo, Ill pull it to pieces shortly and have a look to see if its a virgin.
The bike was going to be DLRA bike but now im steering more towards a track bike as well.
The record for the 500 class is held by a Kawasaki ZXR 400 and think a RZ 443 should be able to take it and sound a lot better doing it.

Year Vehicle Class MPH
2010 1993 Kawasaki ZXR 400 MPS/G 500 133.451

So 133 MPH (214 Kph) is the target.

Here's a pic and short video of my RGV, vid is at a Test & Tune day.

Power valves in open position and geared very high so a bit of a pig to get off the line.
