My Saturday ride through the mountains

#1 Post by xkabooomx » Sat May 19, 2012 11:42 pm

Well I decided to go on a longer trip this weekend on my RZ, I usually go about 50 to 60 miles but today I went for 150 mile trek through my local mountains. Rode through Glennville to the top of Alta Sierra which is 6700' in elevation. (I live at 408')

Then I rode down to Lake Isabella.

After going around the lake and refueling, I rode through Walker Basin.

That looks like fun! I enjoy seeing other riding venues outside of the SE US as I may never get to other places. :smt010

Seeing an RZ on the side stand makes me cringe! :smt010 :smt009 I've caught a few (right evansje1?) and the angle/ design makes them unstable on the SS IMHO. :smt018 I use the centerstand every time. :smt017

Nice looking bike and one can venture out in confidence on the old RZ! I did a 260 mile daily ride on mine and commonly do 120-140 miles on it without problems. :smt004

No I don't have front turn signals, as I never ride in town. Some day ....
And your right Aaron, no dust caps, but have you actually seen dust caps work? Road racing bikes of this period never had them, just more fork drag. I clean the fork tubes after each ride, and am in the process of making some bug shields. And yes this RZ gets ridden, almost 7,000 miles in a year.

Thanks for all the kind words fellow smokers.

I'm one stop light and two stop signs away from my playground. Makes it really easy to get away from the Miss's! :smt014

Thanks Juicebox, I can't wait to get the bike back together, my throttle hand has been twitching for weeks! It's been sooo hot here (104-106) I haven't had the desire to work on it much, but I'm going to hit it hard this weekend! [smilie=cluebat.gif]

Dude! that brings back memories..I used to ride my RZ from Los Angeles to Lake Isebella all the time in the 80s! It was great then NO TRAFFIC! great roads up through the Kern River, I even rode there and back in one day several times probablly putting a easy 300-400 miles on the RZ in a day..Oh the good ol days :smt001. I rode that poor little bike everywhere, and at warp speed too, never broke down, never faultered ..not once with big mileage on her.The bikes were real jewels
However I recall getting several tickets :smt003 ,two over the grapevine :smt018

Well, your always welcome to come play in my backyard. It would be cool (and an honor) to ride with you "old man". Lol. I'm sure this "old man" could school me on how to ride. :smt016

After my RZ rolled offf the SS I only use the SS if the bike is parked facing uphill. It was a good catch we may that day, Evans. Taught me a good lesson.

Great looking area to ride by the way.

I agree on using the center stand. I am looking for one and the mounts to re-weld on my LC. I had a Yam dealer put SpecII pipes on back in early '80's and he had to cut off the brackets (Didn't even ask). Anyway, the center stand got lost in the last 25 years....

I have a post in the wanted section.... Used stand as I will powder coat it.
