Just got an 84 RZ350

#1 Post by reddog952 » Sun Feb 26, 2012 6:58 pm

I just picked this 84 & all the extras pictured. I think I got a smokin' deal. Bike runs good has 32mm flatslides, K&Ns, DG exhaust. Runs good can't ride it as we had some snow this weekend. Would have been a even better deal but I broke the axle on my utility trailer in NYC and had to rent a U-Haul to get back home... Doesn't matter I'm still happy as hell..Image

Cool, looks like a good haul.

silencers are a strange angle, are they designed that way to stay under the passenger pegs?

I have no idea, maybe someone else with DGs can tell. The sound pretty good though. The guy I got it from was a good guy, young professional who just got a Ducati. He said the person he got it from had rebuilt the motor. Yep, I know how that goes, but he did say it would lift the tire in 2nd so it must be running good. Ready for nicer weather then I can check it out...

All the DG's I have seen have that straight to the back pointing silencer? not the best look to me but not a terrible pipe. Probably not up to today's standards but I really don't know, just a guess. What the hell were the guys at DG thinking, they should have gave them a little bling. Nice score though I would love to test out those pipes, I like the Hydroform pipes over a cheap welded cone pipe like the SpecII's. If you are going to weld a pipe at least put a decent weld on it. The SpecII's are strictly utilitarian looking.

It appears you got yourself a motor with some port work by the description of wheelies in second gear and those big carbs. Keep us updated.

I'm not too crazy about the angle of the silencers either but they will work for now. I saw some on another RZ and yes they looked the same.

@ Aaron, After I punished my self daily for weeks for running that old motor I pulled it & split the cases.Crankshaft bearings were all rusted, gearbox was good. I sold the cylinders, head and a few other bits. Then I bought a 421 Athena kit from Roger. I installed that and have it sitting in my spare bedroom. I still need the whole intake side & pipes. Chassis still needs alot of help too. In the mean time I had sold my CBR900RR. I was getting ready to order the whole intake side & then I thought, the only bike I got is in pieces. So I looked for an RZ that I could ride this summer while I round up more $ to get the rest of the parts from Roger.. Hopefully before the end of summer it will be road worthy. It probably wont be pretty but it should go like stink....

I'm in Vermont. I lived 20+ years in N. FL, alot in GA. So yes, I am a hillbilly stuck in yankeeville. Lived in VT 7 years now, hope to talk the wife into leaving one day. Cold weather, bumpy roads, rusty cars, high taxes & heating bills not really my favorite things.......

I grew up in Gainesville, haven't lived there since 94. Yes, Santa Fe River and all the springs there are awesome. They used to set up a temporary road coarse out at the dragstrip and race motorcycles. I think they still do as well as some autocross. It was a great place to live. I don't have any relatives living there anymore. They all moved up to the North GA mountains. I lived up there for awhile in Suches GA, just up the road from the T.W.O. campground & some of the best riding in the Southeast. You have to excuse my rant, I get like that every winter up here.... Snowstorm came through today, not as much as they predicted. I can't wait to take this bike for a spin. I never even rode it. The whole mood of the trip changed when the axle on my trailer broke...You going to Daytona? Looks like highs in the mid 40s next week.....Maybe ring a ding ding!!!

Was reading about Peters adventures and decided to update. Went back to the stock fairing, the belly one has a crack in it but I will reinforce with some fiberglass and put on when I get time. The angle of the silencer was because the holes were wallowed out and the rivets weren't doing shit. I fixed that, but after this picture was taken. Put about 200 miles on it so far. As far as ported motor, I think it was rebuild not to long ago and just runs pretty good. I did check the compression and got 120psi. I think someone thought the big carbs would help (wish I still had those 28mm flatslides). It runs great when it comes on the pipe. 2nd gear wheelies, it would lift the wheel a couple inches. After reading a post on here about sprockets (I think it was Smurphwho runs 15t, correct me if I'm wrong). I got a 16t & 15t front sprocket. The 16t is on it now and it is alot more fun raises the tire a foot or so at about 40mph and just chase it till 3rd gear. This is my 1st time riding 2t street bike in almost 30 years. As soon as I can get more parts from Roger I will be getting back to the 421build. In the mean time. I'm lovin' it!! :smt007 :smt007 :smt007
