My new ride oh noooo itsa 4 stroke

#1 Post by paul baritakis » Wed Feb 01, 2012 9:35 am

Just to good to pass up on,,,so cleaImagen and 40.000kms on the clock, owned new by a guy i fix bikes for.

Handling and braking is simply awesome, and its the 88 short stroke screamer.
15.000rpm redline.

Truth be told though, performance wise my RZ kills it.

im waiting on a few goodies for the RZ,but havnt realy been in the mood for playing much,,as a member of my family has a terminal illness.

One day were here, the next were gone,,,so enjoy life everyday, and dont put off things for tomorrow, that you can do today. :smt001

Nice bike. :smt007 Ive had 2 of them :smt002 And will have another oneday. When I get a chance Ill post photos of mine/or foreward it to you youll like it :smt002 Classic, and a great investment and probably the best looking GSXR ever.

Your RZ will probably out accelertae the GSXR in a straight line...for awile..But we both know the RZ will not see 150 mph as the GSXR will by 5 mph...even 100%stock,nor will it handle anything like the 88 GSXR..its a superior machine in every way..but its not a 2 stroke, thats why we have RZs :smt002
Mine had Yoshi, duplex,Vance and Hines jeted carbs,Modded Yoshimura fuel tank with fresh air intakes,Yoshimura big bore "cosworth",Head work etc.. Fucking loved that bike!!! Never, never should have sold it...never :smt009 dont sell that thing...hang on to it. Its 100% stock! you never see those with the stock carbs/airbox/exhaust and the legendary rear fender..good job!

Thank you for your comments,,yeah no way the Rz will handle or stop like this baby, nor match the top speed.

Ive had an 85 and an 87,but the 88(my personal favorite also :smt002 ) was always out of my reach.

I will fit a pipe(maybe just two cans?) and factory pro jet/needle kit,and thats that,,so rare to find stock and in this condition,,,shes my new daily ride, and gets as many looks and comments as the Rz.

She is definatley a keeper.

I would love to see your pics and chat about these bikes.

Cheers mate :smt001

What a tank! I use to think those were cool when they came out watching them at the track but now I think they are just another out dated over weight 4-stroke. Good score though. It would look great in a museum being stock and all. :smt002

nice score Paul!

Was thinking what to call that piece on the tank... on American cars they often put something similar on the front across the lights and its called a 'car bra', so the one on your tank...its a cod piece right? :smt003

Here you go paul..this ought to make you smile a bit o nostalgia,I saw Kevin race @Riverside Calif on GSXRs ..Uh he was pretty good..lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUK-MS2c ... re=related

Oh they were cool...and they still are BIG TIME! There is a HUGE resurgence right now for the early GSXRs. As far as weight, the first 4 years of GSXRs..are responsible for the modern 2 stroke ass kicking revolution,The bike is as important as the CB70 was in 1969.
I dont care who anyone thinks they are,or the modern machinery they ride,I watched many, many of these bikes dominate on the track in virtually all forms of racing, yea the short stroke had some "racing issues" but for the street,,it was a awesome bike. high 10 second 1/4 miles, and over 150mph top end, perfect looks and great handling.
Search for some of the classic racing monsters such as Yoshimuras "BIG Papa" and Team Hammer's methonol burning GSXR that actually beat Kenny Roberts YZR 500s on racetracks here in the United States..Yea you read that right A GSXR that beat a Factory YZR500 2 -stroke...the slingshots are light, still as light as a modern GSXR! give or take just a few pounds. Realisticlly NO 2 stroke streetbike ever offered to the public would be able to beat one in virtually any cataglory, hell the GSXRs were partially responsible for Suzuki canning the RG500. gotta give credit where credit is due :smt002
Id trade my RZ,right here right now for that bike and Id throw in my Daytona Special also. The RZ and the RDs are a dime a dozen..Ive only seen 1 bike like that in the last 15 years
Id do what you are doing too, remove the stock dual exhausts and store them for safe keeping...there gold an unobtainable for the most part. No point in risking damage to them. My freind had a awesome 88 with the 7-11 conversion,1200ccs,every single high performane mod you could have imagines, techomagnesio rims...try 150h.p to the ground! for a 1988...it was scary, spooky and really fast you could leave a darkie down the road at will in any of the first 2 gears just by giving it throttle, and wheelie almost at will from just throttle at frwy speeds..Hes like me ,has bad dreams about selling his. Your bike in Calif,in mint condition depending on mileage is a $7000.00-$10,00 dollar bike, thats pretty good considering that there were thousands of them released here. I was lucky enough to live within 1/2 hour of Yoshimura's headquarters and the Vance & Hines main race shop,as a result saw the baddest/trickest GSXRs in the world

Actually Paul...you made my day today..posting that picture :smt001 Ill look through my old albums and see what I can come up with, this computer is practiclly dead ,but Ill try to scan them in if i can,but Im not holding my breth until, this gets repaired
Great bike and quite a catch.

Old Rz im glad its brought you a smile and fond memories, ive always been an early gixxer fan too, thanks for all your comments and info,,looking forward to some pics when you dig them up.

Also thanks to Camaroguy,,man its even cleaner now ive spent a couple of days cleaning and polishing it,new plugs,oil/filter/air filter(k&n) and flushing the brake fluid.

I will check the valve clearances tomorow.

Old Rz maybe its best we PM this gixxer stuff,so we dont upset anyone, after all this is a two stroke site :smt002 :smt005
