I guess I'll just stick to the 500s since no one likes these 350s.

You're right, we absolutely hate these things. That's why we are on this forum and addicted. lol
Looking forward to more progress reports on your build Brian but most importantly the dyno runs.

I think we were looking for a more lively discussion of this engine build, rather than one person coming here and telling me that my cylinders were now junk. Plus, I'm pretty sure Bill was just kidding.
He called today and said that the cylinders and crank are ready at the machine shop!!!

dont let 1 person influence you... its an open forum and you need thicker skin for when you are criticized...
carry on.... impressive work on the porting layout... etc...

That's kinda what I was guessing. I had to bust his balls a bit after reading that comment and the time it was posted. I was thinking it may have been a beer induced comment. Keep up the good work fellas!
I agree on the thick skin thing as well. Many people with many different opinions.

Gentlemen,
I'm pretty thick skinned. Just can't get over the idea of a negative comment lurking around every post. But I guess that's why we all have opinions.
Ultimately I stand behind my work! If it should fail in the way Steve prescribed I'll fix it at no cost to the client. Let's see any other tuners around this board say that and then stand behind it.

If I'd fucked up then I'd put it right.
Glyn
You are a stand up tuner then. Glad to see that on here.
You do fine work from the looks of things too. I'd like to give you a call sometime to discuss some pipes stuff. PM me with your phone if you would.

Glyn and Kenny do seem to be stand up guys. I have not dealt with either of them other than Glyn offering FREE advice that was actually helpful for which I am grateful. Too bad we have seen some on the site that seem to get reamed off the bat because what they say may not be accepted as the norm... Seems like the best way to do things with (some in ) this crowd is just not even sign up until you have the dyno charts to back your self up. Seems some here can't wait to see the out come of projects before they start bitching.

I like seeing the work of talented professionals because in this particular arena I am not one. I like to do everything I can myself and spend a lot of time studying to make sure I am doing it right so I am always grateful when someone shares stuff like this. I have dealt with Glyn and Kenny, both top shelf guys, so thanks to you Bill for joining us also. I ported my own cylinders years ago and had the same concern MBSteve expressed since I had left that transfer to intake area similar to what you have. I've now got 25000km on them and they are in need of new pistons so fortunately they have held up. Nice bike you are putting together Brian, I bet you can't wait to get it finished.

I too am anxiously awaiting to see how well it runs. I have a set of cylinders longing for similar treatment.

Went over to Bill's last night to see some progress!! The cylinders are back from the machine shop and look real nice. We had a couple of studs in the case snap off so those had to be removed and heli coiled. He bead blasted the cases to get them ready for paint.
Everything was masked up real well.
And then, shot with Dupli-color semi gloss engine paint.
It's gonna look real nice when everything goes back together soon!!
Here is a gratuitous shot of one of the new carbs next to the old ones...
Things are gonna start happening pretty fast now. Bill will start assembling the engine soon. And then the head will be sent out for it's final work...

I actually just bought some dupli-color high gloss engine enamel. Did you prime the cases before you painted them?
85' rz350 - R6 rear shock, progessive springs & race tech emulator, Fork brace, steering damper, 01' r1 front brakes, GPL Racing ported cylinders & milled head, GPL Racing gp exhaust, V-force reeds, reed spacers, 28mm PWK'S, Zeeltronic pcdi -10v
I know the instructions say to prime them first, but I have a buddy who paints for a living and he recommended this paint to me. He said to lay down a couple of very light coats first waiting 10 minutes in between. Then lay a third, wet covering coat and they will turn out great. So, that's how we did it. If it doesn't turn out well, it'll be Shawn's fault!!jord-rz wrote:I actually just bought some dupli-color high gloss engine enamel. Did you prime the cases before you painted them?
