I pulled the gauge cluster apart to find out why the tach wasn't working (other than the missing needle!). Here is what came out.
I cleaned everything up real well and installed a used tach and speedo that Bill sold me. I think it turned out pretty nice and the odometer only reads 3300 miles now!!!

Here are some teaser pics that Bill sent me showing the layout of his port work. He said that if your builder doesn't lay everything out like that, you should be asking him why?!?

Sorry about that. That is the price for some smaller carbs that we were going to use. I think the quote is about $350 for carbs and cable. They showed up on his porch today!!savethe2strokes wrote:I paid $300 for my 30 MM round slide kit from Spec II about 7 years ago.
Here are a couple more pics he sent me.

Steve,
After I've been doing it a while but you're right it still takes mucho time. Just in this amount of rough in I've got about 16 hours. Still another 4 hours per cylinder of polishing left.
To those wondering about the tools. They are flex shaft machines similar to those most porter use. You have to have a 90 degree tool, no if ands or buts about it. Last time I checked those were running around $500.00 each just for that tool. This isn't a cheap business to be in in terms of tools. Just in porting equipment I think I'm a little over $2,500.00, and that's having a few duplicates to speed up bit changes etc.
Remember all but that polished exhaust is in the 'rough-in' stage in the pics. I'll be feeding Brian with more pics as I get the polish work moving. This is a Phase III tune as well. Synergy is the key to the highend engines like this one.

I am grossly detailed when it comes to layout. It takes me about 4-5 hours to lay out a pair of cylinders like this. I use caliper, hand shaped scribes, a straight edge and a piston turned upside down in the bore for the perpendicular lines. All specs are generated in the computer degree program first then a draw a paper port map with all the details I plan to put into the cylinder then start the layout. The red is DyChem layout die.
Exact balance between the ports in essential for maximum performance and efficiency in terms of my highend engines I build. Phase I and II engines are a lesser degree of the same but still a lot of effort for the layout.
It's all old school techniques really.
