New RZ, what to do with it?

#1 Post by RZ350Street » Thu Sep 08, 2011 10:36 pm

Long story short, I rebuilt my LC, and promptly wrecked it. Coolant air-lock and overheated it on the first ride, led to me skidding for a while and eventually high-siding. Did very little serious damage, but I did bend one front fork badly.

I just picked up this '84 RZ planning to steal the front end and then part out the rest. However, once I took a look at the pictures.....

It's in pretty nice shape, and I'm eyeing that remote reservoir for the rear shock, thinking trick bits. I know it's not mint like so many of you guys keep your bikes, but I just ride em. I don't remember these bikes first time around, so I just enjoy the thrill of the sweet two-stroke song. Anyways... I'm getting off topic.

I can't part out a bike that's that nice, and can still be ridden hard and enjoyed so much... but what do I do with it?

I don't need 2 bikes in BC, heck, I don't need 1, but I like having a bike to ride when I'm at home (once a year, for a few weeks). But now I've got an LC that needs new forks, and cylinders could use a honing, but otherwise in pretty good shape, and an RZ that just needs a gauge cluster. I can't get rid of the LC though, it's very... unique... in a world comparatively filled with YPVS models... I see now how so many of you build up such large bike collections.

Vapor makes a nice gauge, easy to install and set up, lacking in the dummy lights though.

Put the RZ engine in the LC , swap the electrics and the complete front end , find an electric tach ( RZ 85+ ) and change the front sprocket for an offset one to be in line with the rear one .

Don't think you need the offset sprocket do you?

That RZ has a cable speedo anyway too...

Almost too easy. :smt003

It had a vapor gauge on it with the PO and I let him keep it. I'm not a big fan of them, one that came on my dirtbike never worked right and died about a week after I bought the bike.

Zedixe13 and nokturnal... That would work I guess, but wouldn't I be better off just to ride the RZ? I guess it would look like an LC, but the RZ frame and suspension is better isn't it? And the thing I love about the LC is the abruptness of it's power, it's a lot more work to ride fast but oh so rewarding.

I would say sell the RZ and use the money to get slinger to do up the engine and make some pipes for it. I like the LC power better myself... as long as it is increased from stock... :smt003

I believe that you can run the LC wheel in the RZ front-end. So you can keep the stock look too.

That remote res on the RZ is likely an F4i shock... not ideal.

Ditch the RZ , the Lc is better looking anyway , 85 + had electronic tach , I'm doing the opposite on my LC with a 85 RZ engine , I put the LC speedo gears in the RZ case . Front sprocket shaft don't have the same length.

I like the way you think nokturnal...

OK, so I take the front end off this RZ and sell the rest to pay for engine work to my LC... Hmmm... I do have micron pipes for the LC already that sound sooooooo gooooood.

Yeah, if it is an F4i shock, definitely not excited about that.

Anyone want an RZ minus front end? Pretty nice shape, ready to ride.

Actually, unless someone really does want it and makes a nice offer I'll probably just hang onto the parts, can never have to many RZ/RD parts right :P Also, it's in my parent's 6000sq. ft. workshop, where it can stay for a long time well protected until I need the parts or decide to do something else with it.

You can run the LC front wheel on the RZ front end, that's what I have done on my bike. Bolts right in.

I prefer the look of the LC to the RZ myself, although I did use the RZ fairing on my LC. I just like the lines of the LC better, the shape of the tank, ect..

Nice Headcoats.

I've decided to fix up the LC with the RZ front forks then probably sell off the rest of the RZ. I've already got an RZ and I love having an LC too.
