New Bike, now I'm in trouble!!!!!!

#1 Post by Redline Junkie » Mon Jun 24, 2013 8:23 pm

Well now I'm in trouble with the wife! I found this bike for sale locally on the weekend and couldn't say no at $1000. LOL What are the odds! The bike has been sitting for 8 years and will need some carb work to run. The PO had this bike since 1992 and has not drove it for 8 years, although he said he had it running last year. Now he said it pours gas when you turn the gas on (Floats stuck by the sounds of it). Any why I'm just reassembling my 1985 engine with lots of work let on that one. Maybe I will get a ride on this one this year. The Po said it is bone stock with original pistons and 31,000k. Yes the fairing is near perfect, one crack that's it! SWEET!!!!

I will add more pictures as I dig into it!

Only in Canada! LOL

Rob

Nice find Rob!

After sitting for 8 years it might need a lot more than carb work to run, or at least keep running. You need to verify the crank seal condition or your first ride might be very expensive.

I agree John, the seals in my 85' were falling off the crank when I cracked it open after 14 years of sitting. The new seals required a fair bit of force to push on compared to the old ones. The tank is 3/4 full of bad gas, my only hope is the tank is not too back inside.

I was the first guy to email the PO and he said he would hold it until I got to view it. He had it for sale with "make me an offer" and I asked what is the ball park price and he said $1000. I grabbed it and he said there was 13 other emails within 12 hrs about the bike. Only 20 min drive from my house!

I need to take my meds and stay focused on the 85', but I want to dig into the 87' bad.

Does this bike have different carbs then the 85'?

The carbs are different Rob. The 87 uses power jet carbs (1UA). Different main jets, pilots, needles and nozzles (tubes).
