PWK28 Nice Price
Hi, new guy here. I'm actually a bit old but new on here. Couldn't find the new guy intro section so I put it here.
I just picked up a pair of KX100 PWK28s for $207. shipped to my door. Part #15003-1643. I hadn't seen a price that low in a long time so I jumped on it. Thought someone else might be in the market and like saving money like me.

Re: PWK28 Nice Price
May or may not be a good price... today.
BUT ~5 yrs ago these were like 85$ ..each.. complete units. From any Kawasaki dealer.
At least the price has dropped some from the usurious highs of a year or so ago

Re: PWK28 Nice Price
The inflation adjusted price from your claim is $99 using gov't data figures. This is more or less the same price as above depending on if you included GST. Not something to complain about.
Nice price find to the poster and thank you! May pick up a pair for a project.

The free shipping makes it even better!
High quality carbs, especially OEM, have always been expensive. I'm very happy to get such a high quality item for a hundred bucks apiece!

Re: PWK28 Nice Price
JJh needles, 40 air and 130 mains on 94 octane.
Works perfectly. On my ~similar setup As in I have zero intention of further fiddling with it.
NO bogging, burbles, stumbles or misfires.. using WOT from ~3500 rpm , to rev limiter
PWKs are MUCH easier, user friendly, to jet than Mikunis.
Makes our motors run a helluvalot better .

There are Zero taxes (sales, GSt, duties) on stuff personally brought across the border (same day).. up to effectively ~300$.evan_calgary wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 7:17 pm

Some advantages in being close to the US border.

You mean 40 pilot? With airbox/no baffles? And you're pretty much at sea level? I'm at 4200' but I can adjust from your starting point.

Re: PWK28 Nice Price
I installed mine several years ago with the settings Bare posted above and have had no reason to change them, runs great. SpecII pipes, VF3 reeds, reprofiled head, gutted stock airbox.

Re: PWK28 Nice Price
Mildly ported engine, ALL genuine Yama parts.. reprofiled heads, 140 psi compression, Reeds, Stock (ish) Airbox /Yama filter, Microns, Zeel. Sea level mostly.Semi Oldguy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 06, 2018 11:05 pm

Plugs run chocolate brown (rich) by intention asIMO.. Fuel is cheaper than bores, and willing to give up the extra 2 ? hp that running Lean might produce
Running About 25:1 oil mix. Again: It isn't too much oil if the plugs don't foul.. and they Do not.

Re: PWK28 Nice Price
Thanks for that.
I'm leaning toward building a 385 stroker and trying to end up with a really wide powerband. I live at 4200' elevation and ride anywhere from 4000 to 8000 feet and rarely up to 10k. I know the bike will lose a huge amount of power at 8k and I want it to still be fun to ride without needing to be revved to 10k on every upshift.
The bike now is largely stock with gutted airbox and early Toomeys. It starts to pull at 6500 and keeps going past where I will ever rev it. I would love to see it start pulling well at or below 5k and I don't care too much what it does past 9k. So if I want to have fun in the twisties and not beat on it too hard, I can shift at 7-8k and not drop out of the powerband on upshifts. I want the engine to last a long time and keeping the rpms down will add a lot to lifespan.
Here in the high desert, with elevation and large temperature variations season to season, I will want to have hot weather and cold weather jetting. I know the cooler temps will compensate a bit for the thinner air as you go higher. I probably won't ride the bike at the temperature extremes. I have other, more adaptable (FI), and indestructible bikes that don't care about things like that.
Sounds like I should start a build thread!
