Burning coolant
Hi all,
Got the zeel box installed and got the bike up and running. There is tons of white smoke and coolant coming out the exhaust pipes. Engine was fully rebuilt 5 yrs ago. I pulled the head off, the combustion chambers have coolant droplets all over.
I dont see any issues with the head gasket. Are there any problem points i should look at? Cracked cylinder head, cracked cylinder? Any other ways for coolant to get into the cylinders?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Burning coolant
Has there been any porting done? I would be checking the thin spots first and then looking for cracks elsewhere if you can't find anything.
A few drops on the tops of the pistons can be foreseen when pulling the head.
But most likely the headgasket.

Re: Burning coolant
New head gasket and on you go. These motors are known to have random head gasket issues with sealing. Unless you had some major overheating or other reason to suspect cracked parts I would doubt that is the issue.
Re: Burning coolant
Ok i was leaning towards the head gasket. Will order one and try that.
Thanks again everyone..

Yes i was gonna go with a yamaha part. Luckily my local yamaha dealer still has lots of rz stuff. Got a oem taillight assy still in the box and 2 carb rebuild kits. He has 2 NOS cdi boxes. Lots of little stuff..
Will check with them again. Thanks for the tips..

A thin layer of that Permatex spray-on copper gasket wouldn't hurt either, would it?
Re: Burning coolant
Never used it and never had a problem with a new OEM head gasket.kobra wrote:A thin layer of that Permatex spray-on copper gasket wouldn't hurt either, would it?
