Fiber TDR reeds are tough. I have a set that were in the bike 5 years and are still usable. Only reason they're not in there is trying some OEM (fiber) Banshee reeds. Jury's out on them so far.

Lots more posts here since I last checked in!

Carbon is substantially stiffer than fiberglass. Quite a bit. It can be felt in a low-tech composite made in the garage of similar weight fabrics of the 2 materials. A quick google search mentions the above in every post but the numbers comparison is usually to steel. Fiberglass is more flexible therefore less likely to chip. I am surprised to see the manufactures using a twill fabric vs. a uni-directional as well which would provide even more strength. Possibly the impacts with the cage face are not 100% even in the lateral direction or just haven't had the need to update the tech.

Carbon = Stiffer, Glass = more durable

I find this odd. I thought the only difference was with the matting used within the reed.

It is Rory. Carbon is a stiffer and stronger material. Straight fibers are stronger than bent fibers. regular weave is a constant bending mesh of fibers, up and over, under and through. Fiberglass is a more flexible material than carbon when it comes to fiber strength. Unidirectional weave is used in carbon frames for supercars as it is the strongest most rigid material available.
