The nearest station listed on puregas is 167 miles from me.
Re: FUEL
If you can be reasonably sure of the octane rating and ethanol content of the fuel you have, you can calculate where your octane rating will be after you remove the ethanol. I would just add a bit more octane booster than needed, for insurance. It shouldn't be any more risky than the chance of blowi...
Re: FUEL
I don't have access to non-ethanol gas where I live. You can remove the ethanol from fuel by mixing with water, but it lowers the octane level, I've read about 3-4 points. And you have to be careful not to blow yourself up doing it. https://www.wikihow.com/Remove-Ethanol-from-Gas Since I don't put a...

Re: DIY Zinc Plating
Nice writeup and results! I need to get around to doing this. My bike is really clean and original but has some inevitable oxidation on plated parts and hardware. Do the plated parts turn out a little bit shinier than original? It looks that way to me but maybe it's just the photos. Is there a way t...

Re: Whymee's #1 Restore
Aren't you worried some little something will fall into the bottom end and you find out about it the expensive way?
Looks excellent, BTW.

Re: Oil pump flow
You might want to pull the airbox boots and be ready to slap something over the carb intakes in case it runs away from a bad air leak. Not nice when that happens!

Re: Brake caliper parts
Also, thanks to kobra for the great find on the XV250 seal kit. Doubt if I would have found that on my own.
But... cute pink grease for the RZ? Probably better for use on the 250 Virago.

Re: Brake caliper parts
I wonder if silicone dielectric grease would be suitable. I have way more than a lifetime supply of that!
Research is in order!

Re: Brake caliper parts
I rebuilt the front calipers on my RZ with aftermarket (K&L?) seal kits maybe 8 years ago. Now both calipers are leaking fluid from the seals. I mention this because in the hundreds of calipers I've rebuilt for customers, I can't remember many (any) that were leaking. They were all just stuck be...

And here's one for twice what I paid and they've sold a bunch of them. Are people just too lazy to put in a little time to save 50%, or they just have more money than they have a use for? https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Genuine-Keihin-PWK-28-mm-PWK28-Carburetor-YZ85-YZ-CR85-KX100-YZ-KX-CR-RM/1825904193...

Re: PWK28 Nice Price
Thanks for that. I'm leaning toward building a 385 stroker and trying to end up with a really wide powerband. I live at 4200' elevation and ride anywhere from 4000 to 8000 feet and rarely up to 10k. I know the bike will lose a huge amount of power at 8k and I want it to still be fun to ride without ...

Interesting bit of racing history
I just re-found this cool article. Not Yamaha but it does have 2-strokes and racing!
Thought some of you may not have seen this before. There is also a book about it called Stealing Speed.
