Re: Fox Twin-Clicker service manual
Thanks for the info Kobra, You mentioned you have a 700# rear spring how does it feel I also plan to install front springs and emulator valves, did you put heavier springs in the front, if so what # did you use, I would kinda like to get it correct the first time. I'd rather only have to make adjus...

Re: Fox Twin-Clicker service manual
I will try to find the service manual, but it will be tricky given the age. The nitrogen charge is probably 100 to 150psi. This is kind of the go-to for a monotube base valve shock that is tuned properly. You can go with either of these and should feel no difference on the bike. If you put 400, it m...

Body Panels & Tank - Restore or leave Original?
After completing my RZ restoration, one thing has been lingering. I never touched the body panels, they are original paint. There is a crack in the side fairing, the tank has a couple small dents and rusty spots (no rust inside), and some defects here and there. I've heard from SEVERAL guys saying t...

Brand New RD400
I crossed paths with a guy recently who claims to have a brand new 1978 RD400. Showroom condition, with only about 2 miles on it. He bought it and was too afraid to ride it, so he kept it in his garage and starts it regularly just to keep things moving. Said someone offered him $35k and he didn't ta...

Re: Piston meltdown... again
I must admit that I did not pressure test engine after first melt down. The head gasket was a 3-layer with 1 layer removed to set proper squish and I applyed Treebond just in case since a had this in stock. The crankshaft is fine but have not checked for twist yet, but I will measure with dial. I a...

Re: Piston meltdown... again
What spark plugs are you running?
Definitely seems like an air leak.

Re: Changing your own tire
I have the same tire changer as Ken, but floor mount. Great for moto tires and guaranteed to never scratch a wheel. However I have a real hard time with stiff carcass touring tires on it.

Re: Overheating issues
The fact that idling makes the temps go up tells me it might be the water pump. Everything else sounded normal up until that point. Normal operating temperature for coolant is 200 degrees or so.

Re: warped cylinder head
Use an OEM MLS gasket.
Do not run the BR8. Blew up my motor using one of those too. No ill effects from running a BR9.
You can mill the head but also the bolts will probably pull it straight.

Re: Restoring faded switches
Thanks kobra. Those labels do look quite nice. Are they printed on clear tape? Did you clear over them? I'm amazed your red switch looks so nice after seeing some of the stuff from your build, like the wheels! You must have done something to the red plastic, eh? I have found that the heat gun is br...

Re: Restoring faded switches
I would paint them and then put a new OFF label.
My red switch was good to begin with, but this pic illustrates how nice the labels can look. These are just off a regular old cheap brother label maker.

Re: MAX fork air pressure
Get some .85 sonic springs and the MikesXS gold valves. Completely transforms it. You'll want to redo the shock to match.
Don't bother adding air in the fork it's a bad bandaid solution. Once you put the correct springs you will want to run 0psi at all times.

Re: Emulator Installation Questions
Stock springs are ridiculously soft.
I went with .80 sonic springs. They are stiff but good. .75's would be a softer alternative (that are still way stiffer than stock). The springs are much shorter so you can adjust your preload with spacer length easily.

That said I also just got a 3D printer and this is such a cool use :) I think I am going to print up some soft jaws too!
