While heavier than the Toomeys, I prefer my original Spec IIs for a blueprinted but otherwise stock motor for the street. They sound nice without being obnoxious and are lighter than the 1Ua pipes. My mildly modified RZs have Toomeys, while the TrackRat has my own design based on the TZ350G crossove...

Rather than sandpaper, I use a thin, fine flat file to clean them up.
I have not seen a spec, but unless you change to aftermarket plates of a different thickness, it still ends up getting dimpled in the same spots.

Not sure about the California models but most have a brass tube on the inside of the RH carb.
