Re: suspension help
determining total travel for the rear will be a pain in the ass, so just set nominal sags 30mm rear 35mm front that should get you in the ballpark. once you have your sags dialed in... you have a nice new rear shock, wind compression and rebound all the way off and give it a bounce on a stand. give ...

Re: suspension help
first step measure your sags front and rear. get a mate and get them to take up the bike weight you know, basically pick the rear up (using the rear subframe so the shock can extend) so the rear tyre is barely touching the ground. measure the distance from ground to a datum point on the subframe tha...

Re: Over heating
Dave is referring to the 2 small tubes that come off the filler neck... 1 goes to the head and other goes to the overflow bottle yep. overflow bottle line must go to the top connection point at the filler cap, if it was connected to the bottom connection then the bypass might not flow at all (i gue...

http://imageshack.us/a/img407/9849/83192120.jpg well damping is active in two directions- compression and rebound right? down and up respectively. overshoot is when it goes past its umm equilibrium position then comes back again.. also known as bouncing around or oscillating. the purpose of damping...

Re: Couple more questions
You are right Evans...running the stock US carbs with one cable and one idle set screw. oic i have seen that arrangement on a 1988 australian rz250 before, 2x VM26 controlled off a rail much like gixxer's of similar vintage. i was wondering where those carbs came from since all other oz spec 1988 r...

Re: Carb sync method
I do it that way, but that was written by a Brit (ice lolly, paddock stand), not and American (popsicle, track stand). The nice thing with the sticks (or whatever straight slender object you use, drill bit, coat hanger wire etc.) is that you don't need a lot of motion to see the starting point. Onc...

Re: fork oil
I am putting my forks back together after modifying the damping rods for the emulators, and I was wondering about fork oil. First, the weight of the oil controls rebound damping and I was wondering what a good weight for a 160lb rider would be? i think 10wt is probably a good choice. thats OEM spec...

Re: Couple more questions
if screwing in idle screw does nothing then does something, it probably wasnt contacting the slide at the beginning. either it wasnt gapped correctly to start with and/or there is negative slack in the cable. verify float height on both. You can do it on the bike using the overflow tube along side t...

Re: RZ350 with bolognese sauce
Ok to use these head gaskets or is it wise to use OEM? i always split the 3 layer head gaskets oem or otherwise, using only a single layer and seal both sides with 3 bond 1211 and it will never leak. imho the multi layer gaskets are a weak design. the OEM 3 layer steel head gaskets are much better ...

Re: Ignition coil
i use a dynatek coil (from ebay for banshee iirc ~$100) single coil with 2 x output leads as per OEM rz350 electrical arrangement. 45kV compared to the stock 20kV. no problems here works well *shrug* i agree with chang, i wouldnt bother swapping the coil unless you had a reason. my old coil and HT l...

Re: Coupl of questions
i just squirt some oil down the plug holes using a syringe, then fire it up. the motor is angled forward, so squirt to the back of motor and kick over a couple of times to wet the bores, so it doesnt just all run out the exhaust ports. once you get it fired and idling pull the oil pump cable by hand...
Re: New Bike
that bikes in mint condition from the image, dont change anything! its rare to find one that close to original specification only difference i can see is the later generation exhaust which also looks mint :) you have no idea what the history of that motor is though so make a compression test. anythi...

Re: Pilot jet tuning general question.
Thanks for the suggestions. I think I need to go the next bigger pilot. I also am not sure I am adjusting them properly compared to how I read others to do it. If loo lean it will bog when revving the throttle quickly so I richen up the airscrew until it revs without the bog. Then I see how it come...
