(VIDEO) 1979 DAYTONA & RD400 DYNO RESULTS OF WICKED PIPE
Here i have some more dyno test. I'm finally getting a chance to catch up here and there on some of these projects. I know many have asked how much our WICKED MOTORSPORTS HP RD pipes can produce and graph. Well here is some information about them finally. I did couple of lite mods nothing too crazy for this bike. Which I know the average RD out there might already have. Thou the RD400 is it really impress me with the power it made. Here is the link to the pipes on our site if you've never seen them
http://www.wickedatv.com/duportal30/hom ... l=Products
Here are the mods:
Mods:
Wicked Motorsports RD400 Pipes with Toomey Silencers
Stock Ignition
Mild Porting
Intake Modification to accept V-3 Reeds
Banshee 26mm Carburetors Jetted
Banshee/RZ V-force 3 Reeds
Wicked Motorsports Banshee Intake
Banshee/RZ350 pistons with modded skirts
Here's a pic of our intake kit for those that are interested
Our intakes Mounted with the V-force 3
Here is our intake kit which we also sell for the RZ350's. On a RD is needed to use the reed spacers when doing this mod.
Here is what the intake looks like after the mod. I forgot to take a before shot. Darn....
You like to hear them? Video sound quality wasn't too great but gives you an idea.
and last but not least the dyno graph

Nice numbers for a thirty year old, crude engine. Nice example that you dont need 30,32mm or larger carbs to have a solid laugh your ass off li'l around town street bike . Keep up the good work. We all know this is a small market but at least youll be there when people decide to modify their toys. I'll probably be interested eventually, if I keep my daytona. But I would want flatslides
Does your daytona have the stock US points ignition, or a electronic setup? Whats your personal opinion of lets say using stock RZ intake and reeds vs the V -force,price vs Performance. If I recall people saying the RZ/banshee cage conversion doesnt make any more power unless you have some level of porting which I see you have.
RDS ROCK! Nothing like the aircooled look!

Thanks This OLD RZ! Just trying to do what we can. I kept it pretty basic. I got some porting numbers from my pal MBsteve. Thou the only number i did use was the Exhaust Port number. I didn't touch the transfers and i didn't touch the intake ports as you can see. all it was just the Exhaust port. This old RZ wrote:Nice numbers for a thirty year old, crude engine. I really wanted to keep it mellow. + I wasn't getting paid for doing the port work. That I just threw in for the guy for being patient that i had my accident. So i was still really surprised how much power the motor made with such minor mods. I think between all the mods is what made every thing work. The Pipes i feel were a Hugh Key factor along with the Reeds and intakes with some minor port work touches. For the Ignition i kept it stock just set the timing on it. Stock points stock Coils. I can't say the numbers i used cause they were supplied by MB steve so that be up to him if he wanted me to share them
thanks for the motivation. I'm still keeping on trucking and see what else can be done for them Old bikes. Never give up.

Lol.. Cdub thanks! you'll be surprised how many guy's are starting to restore so many of these bikes. I did 6- R5's cafe Racers for Hurley about a year and half ago for some Vintage line. So the popularity is here in California for them. A lot of guy's trying to bring back the old memories of how fast there old RD wascdub wrote:hey Roger, where in the heck do you find all these nice vintage bikes man!!I need to go to the bank and take a trip out there.Very nice looking pipes!

If you've ever messed with the Daytona carbs. You'd want to shove them in the trash too lol... You can take a banshee carbs and taper bore it to a 28mm and will work much better than a daytona carb. Maybe just California daytonas cause they came with all the smog crap. But if your interested I'd be more than happy to sell them.RZBansheeMan wrote:Hey RAJA...The only thing I'm curious about is why you went from the factory mikuni 28vm carbs to the banshee 26 vm carbs ??
If you still have a set of OEM 28's from an rd 400 I might be interested.
You know where to find me,
Mike

Hi Aaron.aaronmvrider wrote:Roger... is that the same packaged set of v force3 reeds set up for rz350... no balance pipe ????? would you advise running a 6mm reed spacer for rz 350
very nice sounding 400
Aaron
Yes they are the RZ/Banshee V- force reeds. Yes we are using the Original WICKED MOTORSPORTS Intake Manifold design With Our Original Internal X-Ross over design. We are the Original Designers of the manifold and the 1st to offer it. We design this manifold idea back in 1998. and sense have made other mods and changes to today's manifold we sell. I do not Suggest the Reed Spacers on the RZ. I really don't like to set the carbs that far back. I believe the the Manifold spacing and tunnel intake design we develop is the perfect fit. The Reason I used the reeds spacers is because you can get real close when porting to Fit the V- force 3's to the outside of the Cylinders. The V-3's sit real tight so safer to add the Reed spacers to allow more room to work with. Also another thing i like about the reed spacers on the "RD400" Is by adding the spacers you get a longer intake effect like the RZ cylinders.
If your interested on the V-3 reeds and intake manifold the price is $399.99 for both. We have a special angle cut for the RZ's due to the frame rail that sits right on top of the carbs.

Yes old wise and mighty power full MBsteve. J/K lol.. I'm just giving you a hard time.mbsteve wrote:I see that my porting specs worked out for you. Numbers will be higher with bigger carbs installed.
But yes MBsteve did help supply me with some porting numbers. I can't say what there were cause they were his suggestions. But the only thing I used from his numbers was the Exhaust as can be seen above pics. I wanted to keep this build pretty basic and simple so i wouldn't throw off what the pipes can actually do for them selves. But i got to give it to MB Steve he hook up a nice Ex port number. Wasn't nothing radical and i think will work great for 91 octane and regular recreational street riding.
I owe you the next round of Brown Suga Beer. l Got tweaked just off 3 of them things lol...
