turn signals

#1 Post by Stephen50 » Sat Jul 18, 2009 8:49 pm

Greetings,
This problem is with the left turnsignal. right works fine. left comes on and stays on. I am using aftermarket signals and they have been working fine for the last 4 years. Not sure what to check first.
Tried changing bulbs but no change. Any Suggestions?

Yes as far as I can tell the flasher unit works but on the right side only, Can I just put a car flasher in it place? I don't understand how that would change anything because it flashes on the right side but not the left.

no i believe they are a specific unit and the original is wired in some way so the flasher cancel unit operates

Stephen,
Do both left indicators come on or just one? if just one check the wire connectors on the dead indicator.
I'm not a complete idiot...some parts are missing.

First, Thankyou for the great resopnce. Yes, both LEFT(FT & RR) signal are solid on. Rght signal both (FT & RR) blink normaly. I read the trouble shooting turn signals section in the manual did the prodedures. The test results were bad flasher unit. My question is: Why does the right side opperate properly? Flashers can't be that expencive, I'll just get one Tuesday and try it out.

Not all bulbs are equall. Just because the bulb says its a 21w at could be out either way. The flasher unit is a bi metalic strip that works on the current drawn so if there is only just enough current on one side the other may not have enough to open and close it. This is why the Led lamps need a special flasher unit.

Turn signals soved

I narrowed it down to the bulbs. After I renstalled the originals lamps. (the ones that survived the crash) Blinkers worked fine. So I took the long trip down to the motorcycle shop to get the correct wattage bulb,
The local auto parts store didn’t even know what I was talking about.

Thanks for the help.
