I saw some topics with more pics of the same bike. Is there a topic somewhere I might have overlooked where there is one pic of the RZ or RD you own.

On an other forum I visit regularly it is possible to add one pic to your profile, It would be nice if this was possible here to...

Ps are there more RD500 riders from the Netherlands on this forum?

just a little info on production numbers page 1 of my manual (rz500L 1984 ist edition) says
" the engine serial number is stamped into the elevated part of the left rear section of the engine. Note: the first three digits are the model identifications;the remaing digits are the production number

Starting serial number 53G-000101
designs and specifications are subject to change without notification

this would accont for my bikes all numbers are 53G-under 000400 but was wondering if there is also any low number 52X (1984 mk1's) out there
what people here call mk 1's were original L models here in NZ and the N models the second generation rz's and I can remember the TSI updates being given to me just in case I wanted to bring my bike up to the" RN" model 3rd gen spec (ballance shaft mod)this was back in 1986/87. there is a copy of my manual ver 1 1984 rz500L on ebay now
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-R ... 240%3A1318

can post the page the page from my manual soon as I sought out a photo upload page

hmmm thats a low number lower than my manual says they start at, 53g 000101  Is it a 5/84 (aust) plate on her? just wondering if it was not one of the early 6 hour race bikes?, I can remember them racing on the track before I got mine eg aussie and NZ 6 hour and proddy races and that year,( won the 1983 aussie castrol 6 hour race oct / nov 1983) pre gXer's and FzR's there was quite a few of them on the track and the next year they were pretty much replaced with the new diesels. but by the end of 1983 there were at least a dozen of them racing in Aus / NZ read *1983*
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castrol_6_Hour makes the 5/84 poss the second generation of them? eg the MK 1 or L model maybe had a predecessor? just a thought

Are you sure it was 1983?

Mick Doohan had some good results with Team Camo in 1985 .He won first time out on the rz500 at Surfers in September 1985.The bike was painted camouflage and Mick wore camo overalls over his leathers

I thinks Wikipedia has it wrong but even sept / oct 1984 there were at least a dozen teams eg 7 RZ500 starters in Aussie 6 hour and about the same number of NZ teams with RZ's some quite well sorted eg good enough to win the 6 hour so some of them must have RZ's that arrived quite early in 1984.
How long have you had your RZ Chris?
but with a number like yours It must be one of the 1st RZ's my lowest is 53G 000234 also a NZ new RZ under 300 ( my original one) and a Aussie frame No 53G 000381, maybe theres more down-under than thought?

for jackson40
http://www.castrol6hour.com.au/1984.html
was 1984 and was won by a kiwi /aussie combo R Scott / M Dowson and the weather at the NZ 6 hour (very strong winds and tight track) let the gpz900 out grunt it........ was a very sad day  humble pie for years to come(mate had the GPZ)
I will post some pic's of my RZ soon but it came with a few strange parts that I have yet to see on other RZ's but as it's been in boxes for the last 20 years (severly blown motor) slowly being reasembled as parts are found but for jackson on the front wheel is the original Yokohama tyre (strange twist of fate the day it blew up I couldn't find a set of tyres for it 16" were not commo then but could find a new Yoko rear so refitted the original front tyre for the day and it's still on it 25 years on
