Crazy Horns

#1 Post by Jeff B » Fri Jun 01, 2007 8:47 pm

A guy I work with is big into trailbikes. He has a KTM that he made street legal. One of the necessities for the street is a horn. He didn't want a big heavy steel one so he got creative. He used the buzzer out of a smoke detector. It's not real loud, but it does the job, saves weight, and space. The downside is that it needs a 9 volt battery.

Why did they ever invent the 9-volt battery? Seems like such an oddball....

Does it really need 9v? The smoke detector will be 9v but will it not work on 12v - may be a little louder and a little higher pitched?

Dreaming is not a failing, it is what makes us climb bigger mountains, make better bikes and love. However it can take up an inordinate amount of time...

ive always thought the same, but yanno, 9 is divisible by 1.5. 1.5, 3, 6, 9,12.

why bother with the 9v alarm buzzer, 12v buzzers are cheap as all hell

He said he tried it off the 12v batter and it didn't work real well.
