Hi
I find a lot of posts about swapping the whole front on the RD500 for something newer and more functional, but I want to keep the original forks. I have previously installed gold valve emulators on those forks and are happy with the way they work. I have found instructions on how to install YZF600 rear wheel, and I´m in the process of having that fitted.
Speedo drive I understand is compatible.
Bushes I can always have made up to centre wheel.
Axle seems to be the same diameter at 15 mm.
Any source of caliper brackets to use for the larger discs (believe YZF600 has 298 mm discs)?
Is distance between rotors the same as std front wheel?
Can anyone give me any insight?
Any help appreciated.
Regards
Øyvind

Re: YZF600 (pre R6) front wheel in std front forks
I converted my bike to 17” rims a few years ago.
I used a XJR400 rear and FZR400 front with 298mm discs.
From memory the FZR rim was straight forward to fit, just matched the bearings to the axle and made up some alloy adapter plates for the calipers. Fitted MT07 4 pots. I had to turn a few new wheel spacers in the lathe.
Not quite the same combo you’ve asked about but can’t see it being too difficult to fit the YZF.

The YZF 600 is very simple, the oil tank and radiator over flow tanks need a little adjustment but really pretty simple. You also can keep the speedo drive. I’ve got one set up like that.

Hi Mike. I’ve seen the description on work needed to fit the entire front end of the YZF600 into the RD chassis. I’m going to fit the YZF front wheel in between original forks. I have found NK Racing are selling some brake-brackets to fit 298 mm discs, and have found on another site that the distance between rotors is only off by about 4 mm or so from the RD. I’ll get hold of an YZF front wheel, and see if I can make adjustments to make it fit.

Great, very easy job, I used all YZF parts with no problems
