Not dead ….yet🤣. Engine reassembly

#1 Post by Gary Papesh » Mon Feb 13, 2023 1:16 am

Ok guys, no more excuses, it’s time for me to get on with getting my RZ back on the road.I’m embarrassed to say how long it’s been, but anyway, here we go. I have painted my engine cases in primer, next step is paint. Unfortunately, I just had my left hip replaced, so that’s going to slow things down . But I’m determined to get out into the garage as often as I can, even if it’s small. My cylinders are ported, heads reworked, Yamaha TSI spec pipes built, mufflers built. I reworked and built all these parts years ago, now it’s time to finish. Next I’ll post up some pics, and as soon as I can drive, I’m going to the paint shop for some hardener. Until the next time… I have to figure out posting pics.

Good for you. My brother laughs at me and all us at the vintage races about gimping around. A takes a lot of time to put these bikes together and we all think we have plenty of time. But truth is as we get older it takes longer to do the get the work completed. The engine weigh a ton and are just a pain in the ass to work on. I still love my bike but dread that day when she say no more. Keep up the rehab and pay attention to the docs. You will be surprised how much better you might be once healed up. Do the rehab, exercise at home, and join a local YMCA and go to the pool once a day if you can. Broke my pelvis in 2013 and was the best thing I could have done. We are all here for ya. Use Image Shack for picture hosting. There is a yearly fee but it works well. Get the grandkids to help if you have them around.

"No more excuses"
I got to get to that point - a good thing about races is they put you on a schedule.

So the engine cases are painted. Now it’s time to start reassembling the engine.
Unfortunately when I tried to upload some pictures I got a message that said that the limit has been exceeded, or something.
I’m also on the RZ /RD 500 group on Face book, and I have posted pictures there. I would like to do it here, and keep everything on one thread, but I don’t know how. Please reply if anyone knows how I can get around it. Thanks, Gary.

Gary, you may want to try using an image hosting site to get photos on to this site. I use IMGUR. It's quite simple.

I was able to view your photos on Instagram without having an account.. Looks great.

Now I’m truing up the cranks . These are new units from Gus Christensen. They were pretty close to spec , but still needed some tweaking.
As far as the runout is concerned, the ends measure parallel, and in spec. Happy camper! On to the next one.

So I’m using Imgur, but it doesn’t post the photo, just the link ? Any ideas?

When you open your photo in Imgur click the blue Copy button next to BBCode.

Paste it here.

I must have a different Imgur app, I can’t find a page that looks like that.☹️

So the upper crank was a lot easier to do, and faster. Also clearanced the cases for Gus's cranks.
Also i found in the fine print, that I have to post up pictures with my desktop. Apparently my IPad Pro and Imgur don't like each other. :???:
And thank you kpke for your help!
