Secondary Oil Tank

Could somebody tell me the purpose of the second 2 stroke oil tank on the RD500? It looks like a form of anti surge to stop air getting to the pump under extreme operations, braking, wheelies etc., but I’m guessing. I’m fitting my engine into a TZR250 3MA frame so does anybody run an engine without it? Are there any issues or mounting height rules I should know about?

It’s just an extra tank to add more oil and range. that’s it, the RZV500 does not have the second tank. Just the main tank.
