Sealing JL Exhausts
Hi,
Bit of a oily dribble from the JL expansion chambers where they connect to the cylinder not too bad, but I hate the mess they make - does anyone have any tips on the best method of sealing them - RTV Silicone , Fire Gum etc ? or is there a crushable gasket that would work ? - Strangely the JL's only have one spring per pipe.
Thanks.
Cheers

Re: Sealing JL Exhausts
use rtv silicone, but make sure you clean any oil off first, that's what i always use

Re: Sealing JL Exhausts
After the JL orings failed I replaced them with these from McMaster-Carr supply. These with a bit of high-temp red silicone sealer sealed them…so far lol.

Thanks for the info.
It still seems strange that the JL’s only have one spring per pipe

One spring is strange. I would think the pipe woul move. Silicone after a very good cleaning took care of my Jollys
Re: Sealing JL Exhausts
I've just siliconed the pipes for a second time - the first attempt failed - I found it quite hard to put a bead on the exhaust flange - I had to rely on coating the end of the pipe - I noticed a groove on the exhaust flange and wondered if a O-ring should go in it ?rz500guytexas wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 10:00 am One spring is strange. Not sure it's the same problem but in the 500 factory days Honda and Team Roberts both sealed the inside of the exhaust with Nikasil.
Re: Sealing JL Exhausts
I used these from McMaster-Carr USA with success, so far. Just did a track day and still holding.rd84 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 9:20 pmI've just siliconed the pipes for a second time - the first attempt failed - I found it quite hard to put a bead on the exhaust flange - I had to rely on coating the end of the pipe - I noticed a groove on the exhaust flange and wondered if a O-ring should go in it ?rz500guytexas wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 10:00 am One spring is strange. Re: Sealing JL Exhausts
Thanks for the advice everyone - I've used a high temperature copper silicone and put more on than before being careful not to get it inside the exhaust flange - right now I think its successful - I've bought some exhaust O rings in case my latest attempt fails
