RZV500R TM28 Carburettor Problem

#1 Post by rd84 » Fri Jul 30, 2021 7:00 am

Hi,

My RZV500R has developed a problem on one cylinder - it wouldn’t tickover at idle - I found the top left rear cylinder exhaust was cold with a cool low energy exhaust pulse.... I checked in the carb and there was a greyish grit in the bottom of the float bowl and 1 piece of grit in the pilot jet - having cleaned this out and squirted carb cleaner through the carbs passages I put it back together- the bikes tickover was ok after this but runs poorly on this cylinder off of idle and only picks up at higher rpm - off of idle the exhaust gas is cool with a weak pulse compared to the other cylinders and the pipe cools off - the end of the exhaust is dry and shows little sign of unburnt fuel - I swapped the plug caps over with the right cylinder but the symptom didn’t change - I suppose I’ll have to swap the carbs to see if the problems transfer ? The idle rpm doesn’t respond to the air jet screw either.
Does anyone have any advice or thoughts about what the problem might be ?

Thanks.

Cheers
Paul

Your problem is clearly in the corresponding carburettor and only there.

I’m wondering why the idle doesn’t respond to the air screw - maybe still blocked ?

I’ll swap carbs to see if the problems transfers to rule out engine or inlet problems

If you're way too rich or too lean for any reason, you won't notice any difference with the air screw.
