Today's Dumb Question - Fork Oil Stock RG500?

#1 Post by tonyhes » Fri Aug 21, 2020 6:24 pm

Hello,

Trying to figure out what fork oil I should get for a stock RG500 fork rebuild.
The manual states "Suzuki Fork Oil #15 / 99000-99044-15G

A youtube rebuild video suggest 10W for a stock rebuild... But I have no idea!

Please advise,
Tony.

The part # is 15 wt oil. Not sure why anyone would suggest 10 wt oil, unless they are building forks for a specific purpose. Typically it is suggested that more wt is better with retro forks and modern fully synthetic fork oils.

Both mine run 15w. One has emulators and both work perfect. 10w is a little light. Not the best forks in the world to make worse with light oil.

Just got word my forks legs are ready for pickup, hopefully I can start on putting a front end together.
This looking bad for my bent frame however. RG500 worst bike to try to build... Parts are so rare and when you get em...they're beaten!

Planning on keeping keeping he anti-dive, yes.

Yep, They are tough to source, I had to get a lot of mine in Japan, Shipping costs and auction and bank fees are a killer going this route,
