FUNC ME

#1 Post by Smoker » Mon Jul 20, 2020 2:34 pm

Was watching this video that was recently posted.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERUWFgfNHsM&t=16s

Learned about the RZV500 FUNC switch.

Didn't find any info on the switch, the fuel level sensor, or the dual gauge, in the service manual I have. Manual is supposed to cover the RZV500R.

So the RZV fuel tank is different?

Anyone try to retrofit a standard RZ500 with RZV fuel gauge parts?

Yep. The RZV tank has a fuel level sender for the gauge, Thats really it, The FUNC button just switches between the temp and the fuel level

here s the difference

No one would bother Pete. It's far too much in both cost and time. You would need the RZV tank, the RZV fuel level/float unit, the correct multi function switch and gauge (51X part #), and the correct wire harness.

Thanks for the info.

Is the petcock different, and mounted in a different place on the RZV500 tank?

Was just wondering if the RZ500 fuel tank could be modified to hold the RZV500 fuel level sensor? Then hooked up to an aftermarket gauge.

The RZ tank already has the square on the bottom, you would need to drill out the holes to fit it, Getting nuts on it would be a tough one, Maybe cut it out completely, tack on the nuts on the back and weld it back together.
ixe13's solution looks great, No FUNC button needed, Looks really nice actually...

Agreed, that does look like a tidy solution.

2 x 2 bolts from the inside welded with a nail to bridge them so they won't spin freely + 4 nuts on the outside

Funny , you could use a right handle switch from a FZ and use the '' start '' button as the function switch .

Yep. That’s what I did on my RZV. The right switch is impossible to find in good condition.

Does the FZ750 temp / water gauge fit in the RZV mount without out modification?
Don't mind doing the wiring to bypass the switch

Not 'drop in' but also not impossible as its nothing a quick Dremel wouldnt fix tho? Its 3.5mm all round... You would also need to redrill the mounting holes as well I would think.

I guess it depends on how much you want to do it and how easy the brackets are to find?

Im wondering what is another bracket that fits the bike that uses this gauge? FZ750R maybe? you could fit the other clocks to that bracket perhaps? Ive no experience of these but lots of the Yam gauges of the era used a similar bracket is my thinking.
