cranks and crank parts

#1 Post by guss » Wed Nov 25, 2015 11:35 am

Have had serious thoughts on a second round of cranks for the 500.

That being said the cranks will be the same but different, removable rod pin instead of the forged one, a 4 mil drop in crank will also be made, this will have a special pin rod bearing and rod so no case cutting will be needed.

I'm interested. A complete package would be very attractive.

So, a 4mm stroked crank, will give 540cc on the stock bore and with my 2mm over size, 579cc. How about getting some laser cut barrel spacers made up too ? or maybe just use a 1mm base gsk and allow the piston to pop up above barrel and machine the head.
what sort of time frame and cost are we looking at Gus ? shipped to uk.

Not to be the bearer of bad news but as soon as you introduce a spacer plate you render the OEM YPVS linkage useless. All that must then be recreated. In addition, use of OEM carbs will no longer be an option, and the waterpump piping connected to the lower cylinders will have to be completely revamped. Of coarse the fairing mounts on the lower cylinder head is now in the incorrect position and all 4 exhaust mounting points will no longer align. Sure all can be worked through but it is not going to be a kit, a bolt on or anything of the sort.

I'm glad to see your considering new cranks again Gus. But want everyone to understand the huge implications a few mms can cause.

I personally would not space the cylinder that's where the pistons or head work come in, the PV's could be adjusted and a .080 slot in the tube to the barrels could work too??

Interesting information Bill - thanks for the insight into problems that may be encountered with a spacer - would the powervalve problem be sorted with longer actuating arms - or would the operating arms and whole mechanism need to be spaced higher to compensate as well ?

Cheers
Paul
