Re: My project (1GE)
I don't think that it would make sense to replicate this part. It's a steel part which can be repaired if it's bent from a crash and not really rare.
On the other hand it would be quite expensive as it is made out of a lot small parts.
Either you spend a lot of money for pressing/stamping tools (only makes sense for 500+) or you can do them all by hand which takes alot of time.
If you look to the pre series bikes you can see what i mean - simple hand made brackets.

Re: My project (1GE)
Got a bit bored by just drawing parts in CAD and reminded back how I started this whole hobby... Buying some really cheap shit and get it back on the road for under 1000EUR total.
Scrolled trough some ads as I do it from time to time and there was an interesting bike around the corner - Suzuki SV650S
Let's say it like this, I already spent more money for RD500 throttle cables
Bike was in a shed for over 10 years together with turkeys.
After removing the turkey and mouse poo from the bike it looks quite acceptable again.
Expected far more surface damage by the poo, but it seems that it is not that harmful as long as it stays dry.
Engine looks good on the inside as it has only 25000km.
Nice to have tools in my hands again instead of a computer mouse...
I will not stop my RD500 activities but I need some time in the garage too to be happy.

Re: My project (1GE)
The project is not dead...
Afer selling the SV650 (condition was too bad, too much parts needed to do it "right") a software update for my scanner popped up.
It was not a minor update, they totally changed the software. It works way better now and close to all bad points are sorted out.
As I wanted to measure the balance of the crankshaft I decided to scan all required parts regardless of the fact, that I have already done them in CAD.
Next step is to check the CAD parts and get them as close as possible to the real parts.

Re: My project (1GE)
Planned to scan this parts for a long time...
Now I took them home from the garage.
I got 99% of the exhaust port geometry and maybe 70-80% of the other ports.
For the cooling channels I think I have enough geometry to do them right as the outer geometry shows most of the areas where a water core can be.
Let`s see, maybe I will do a CFD simulation of the water flow.
Good thing: Front and rear cylinders have the same geometry, only the inlet geometry is different.
Not so much work to do them both in CAD.

It`s getting interesting - things you can`t see on the real engine as they are hidden in assembled condition.
