RS250/500

#1 Post by podman » Sat Jun 09, 2018 6:25 pm

Out with a couple of friends today, one who owns the RG500 engined RS250, was built back in 1999 by the current owner, Harris did the frame work and it has a huge custom rad fitted, sounds very menacing.

My 500 absolutely bob on now, ive done around 300 miles since the dyno work and shes revving out sweetly and going extremely well, well enough to show up the rear shock doesnt have much in the way of damping left, suggestions?

The owner of the RS also built this rather infamous RG/ BSA Bantam..wonderful thing and 1 of 2 he has built in his front room!

Did he ride this Banram as shown, without mufflers, on public roads? You seem to live in a better world than I

Do we have noise regulations for such old vehicles?

Even for new vehicles it`s a bit funny in Austria.
The Ducati Panigale is registered with 108dB...

I think the bigger issue in this case is to get this thing road legal here as it has nothing to do with an original bike

Speaking for Germany the legal noise emissions always apply to the year of manufacturing.
A friend of mine has transplanted a 500 3 cylinder Kawasaki into a Norton frame from 1954. So all regulations of that year apply which means goodbye two mirrors, indicator lights and also excessive mufflers.
I always hear him a minute before he can be seen :-)

Thought this might amuse a few of few, Freddie Spencer was at a local(ish) meet during the week and met with Roy's legendary Bantam Mk2 (Mk1 is pictured above) , he was quite taken aback with it !

I live the mismatch of the tires.
I wonder if the seat melts with the higher pipes, but it looks like a lower as well, are they dummies or am I?.

We'd all like to take it for a ride SS...

Wonder no more, nothing melts, its all safe and road legal..The lower pipes are for the lower 2 cylinders, if that is what your referring to?

I'm the dummie - I figured it was a 250 twin, because a bantam 500 was incomprehensible to me.
