Clevis Pin for Rear Fuel Tank Bracket
Can't find a Clevis Pin online for the rear fuel tank bracket.
Part number 91702-06075 PIN, clevis.
Can anyone post the measurements? I'd like to make one out of titanium.
I could make up my own dimensions, but I'd like to copy the OEM part.
Thanks!

The hole for the r clip is 4mm from the end.

Thanks, Steve!
3/8 inch grade 5 titanium rod ordered.
Head width looks about 8.5mm.

Thanks, again!
Posting dimensions of these NLA parts is helpful, as it's getting harder and harder to find good and reasonably priced used parts.
I'll post a pic when it's done.

Re: Clevis Pin for Rear Fuel Tank Bracket
Spent more time improving the design of the clevis pin.
Have the titanium bar ready to machine, and had a question.
Why is there a clevis pin, instead of a bolt and nut?
My guess is that a bolt and nut would "squeeze" the pivot, whereas the clevis pin would put no pressure.
So, now I'm wondering why I can't use a titanium bolt with a locknut, instead of a clevis pin?
Is there some other advantage to using a clevis pin?

Re: Clevis Pin for Rear Fuel Tank Bracket
its a convenience so when you remove the front nut and bolt you can pivot the tank back and hold it up with the strap to get at the top spark plugs etc...

I enjoy designing and fabricating titanium parts, but it's expensive. At the last minute, I'm thinking it's not necessary to have a clevis pin for this application. Also, a titanium bolt and nut will look better than a titanium clevis pin.
Any reason to NOT use a bolt and locknut?

No, there is no reason you can't use a nut a bolt. If you want to lift the tank, remove the nut and bolt. It will take a similar amount of time as removing the pin.
If I need to work under the tank, I remove the tank. I suspect many people do. I have no desire to watch my tank fall on me as I work with it held up by a cable, which itself can damage the tank. And remember that the fuel level in the tank must be low enough so it doesn't piss out the cap and the vent if you do pivot the tank.

Ya, it's a pretty slick system! A real engineering marvelsilverstrom wrote: If I need to work under the tank, I remove the tank. I suspect many people do. Re: Clevis Pin for Rear Fuel Tank Bracket
As usual, it takes me a long time to figure things out.
All along, I was thinking the purpose of the clevis pin is for quick removal of the pin, without tools. Probably for roadside service.
Realizing this isn't true is why I decided to change to a bolt and locknut
And it would probably have cost $100-$150 usd, just for the machining. Gun drilling a small hole through 3 inches of titanium isn't easy, for sure.

Why do you want it in titanium ?
And why not to make it in aluminium ?

I for one enjoy reading Smoker's fabrication. The exotic metal pictures are great. I do enjoy it. Keep it up Smoker

All hardware will be gold titanium nitride coated. Works best with polished stainless or titanium.phildu31 wrote:Why do you want it in titanium ?

Almost all parts I make out of titanium (or buy) are to replace OEM steel parts. So, at least 40% weight reduction per part.
I've never seen any bike with all gold TiN hardware.

Ok, that's a real deal.
Mind the galvanic corrosion with other parts in metal.
