John you have suffered a lot these past years, I wish you and your family the best in the situation you are facing. We all want you to get that baby running and ride for Mickey. We also want you to be there for your mom, you only have one... will keep you in my thoughts. Brian if you are out there post a little update if and when you have time. Miss seeing the updates and hearing from you both, I know about business I just started back up with mine. Hard to manage all things in life with a "balance" when things are out of whack. John hang in there Brian keep on doing your thing we are all pulling for you both. JT

Hello, hello !

Today is February 15, 2012

Mickey Krupa past away February 17, 2011.

In two days will be a year since Mickey Krupa past away.

Simply put, remembering Mickey a year later.

We are all waiting for the final completion of his bike,

now the pipes are installed.

I have emailed Tom some pics,

I am sure he will post soon.

I did post them on my website:

www.rz500.net

Mickey's link - http://www.rz500.net/RZ%20500%20Pits_2.htm

Was this finished, or is it still an ongoing project?

Unfortunately it seems to have stalled. I have not heard from anyone directly involved in the project for quite some time.... :smt017

Well, as succinctly stated by Monty Python - "I'm not dead yet!" And considering what's been happening, the humor is intentional. :smt110

It's amazing what life will throw your way and expect you to handle it. Somehow, I have. In no way perfectly, but handle it I have. I have to thank all the members of this forum who have had enormous patience and understanding RE our efforts to complete Mickey's RZ500 project build. I have not forgotten about any of you.

I also need to apologize to everyone for my failure to stay in touch with the forum. I should have, but I didn't. No excuses. I'm sorry. I will try to be more open and communicate more with everyone.

RE the build itself, although slowed, it has not stalled, not ended, and has been moving forward. In summary, since my last post, Brian Turfrey has been working upon completing the subframe, the pipes, and the motor rebuild. We had issues of missing motor parts which were no longer produced thanks to the previous state of the motor received by Brian. Many members helped contribute parts and I had to source other parts from overseas' sellers; but with the help of everyone, we got all of the missing parts. Brian has completed the rebuild, the subframe, and the pipes; and, I had the bike shipped back from Brian to me 10 days ago.

As a quick aside, if anyone needs work done on their two-stroke, I would highly recommend Brian. His work is amazing (as you'll soon see) and he is a really great guy as well.

Brian and my goal was to honor Mickey's desire to turn his RZ500 into a Wayne Wainey replica. To that end, we decided to cut-off the stock subframe and create a new removable subframe to allow Brian to more accurately recreate the pipes as used in GP500. We also decided to use the airtech YZR500 tail section. Brian created the subframe from scratch and then created the pipes to match the bike. Mickey and I had previously installed the R6 suspension components and delivered the rolling chassis to Brian for work.

Since I have received the bike back 10 days ago, I have worked to clean, prep, and paint the newly installed pipes and subframe and create a mock-up to allow me to see the remaining tasks I need to complete to finish the bike.

I'll shut-up now and begin posting pics  The first series are the bike currently mocked-up.

In the below pic, you can see the stock footpegs and brackets I used for mockup, I will be getting a set of aftermarket rearsets and brackets. Note the aluminum support bar Brian created to hold the pipe.

In the below pic, you should see something missing . . . the silencers. Looking to find some nice carbon fiber ones. Haven't found quite what I like yet, but leaning towards Jim Lomas.

In the below pic, you can get a better view of the R6 swingarm and routing of the pipes underneath.

In the below pics, you can see the R6 front forks, using stock fairing bracket. Still have work to do to prepare for the YRZ500 bodywork (will have to make all the mounts from scratch).

More to come!!
