MY 85 RZ500 BUILD

#1 Post by RZ 500 N » Fri Aug 11, 2023 5:48 pm

Building, not so much as yet. But I am still collecting parts.

I didn't like the condition of of the 38 year old hoses, so I splurged and just purchased New Samco Sport hoses, I also bought their hose clamps even though their a little pricey, didn't want the hassle even though the originals are still available even more expensive, Samco's purchased thru Racebikebitz USA. Incase anybody is looking for new hoses.

I love the Samco hoses, Work great, The reason you use their hose clips is the sides are rounded to stop tearing the silicone, The OEM hoses are sharp/square and cut the hoses....

I like the SAMCO clamps their wider, you don't have to really cinch them down to hold the hose.

I've noticed to many motors where the stock hoses are swollen after the clamp, just an accident waiting to happen. Took me a while to find a US distributor who sold them.

I have a local shop: Cycle Gear, who is a distributor for SAMCO, but they can't order them, the bike is not even listed anymore on CG order site.

I'll get some pics of the bike up, I know how everyone likes pics. Stuff I have to fix, for one, a former owner decided to spray paint the wheels, and not very well. :smt018

It is best to use their clamps. I have seen race bikes where their hoses have come off. Clean the fitting and the hose well with a cleaner to remove the slick surfaces. Maybe scuff up the inside of the hose where it connects with a wire brush, scotch brite pad, or or rough sand cloth to be sure it grips well. I safety wire the clamps and hose in critical areas for track use. Good luck with the build.

Hose's were there when I got home from work, and Texas Guy thanks for the tips: There's a notice with the hoses, the Life Time Warranty will be invalid if anything other than SAMCO Sport hose clamps are used.
