Rev counter playing up

#1 Post by Almac » Thu Jul 06, 2023 5:00 pm

I was out on a run the other day and my rev counter started to misbehave.

I started to read low and bounce about. I was thinking maybe a damper spring has gone in it as it seems a bit more stable when the bike is rev’ed at a standstill.

Anyone had similar issues? and can it be repaired?

Thanks

I had a similar issue. I found a new cable helped but didn't cure it completely.

Thanks, I’ll recheck the wiring but it was replaced a couple of years ago as part of a Zeel upgrade.

Could be the plug in the loom.

Is the battery fully charged and/or is the bike charging as it should? Sluggish rev counter is usually a sign of low charge on the battery on these bikes.
If I had a signature, it would be good.

Yes, brand new lithium battery fitted.

It’s more the needle bouncing/moving erratically than moving sluggish.

I haven’t had much time of late to investigate, hopefully be able to borrow a replacement gauge from my friend in a few weeks as a quick check it’s not the rev counter before I start digging deeper into the wiring.

Wee follow up.

Sorted the rev counter, it wasn’t broken.

Same issue I had last year when I fitted a Zeeltronics. The Zeel generates too high a voltage for the rev counter input. I fitted a zener diode to cut the volts down, had to fit another diode (2 in series) to chop a little more volts.
